I have been provided with a Nutrisystem plan in exchange for sharing my honest experience and results on my blog. All opinions are my own.
Something that we’ve realized since Ryan started Nutrisystem, was how emotions and perspective influence our food choices. We all know a child who refuses to eat any food that doesn’t look or smell ‘yummy’ to them. As adults, it’s generally easier to convince yourself to try foods regardless of scent or appearance. By adulthood we’ve all realized there are certain foods that don’t smell good or look good, that taste amazing. Still, I think it’s easier for us to eat foods that appeal to all of our senses.
Like with any packaged food, some Nutrisystem entrees don’t really look appetizing in the container. This week I noticed that Ryan eats some Nutrisystem entrees right int he carton they come with, and in others he’ll transfer the food to a plate or a bowl before eating. I asked him why that was. He explained that the entrees that don’t look appetizing in the container can look better to him once they are in a bowl so he does it for the psychological benefit of enjoying the appearance of what he’s about to eat. I thought that people who are on Nutrisystem while they have kids might appreciate transferring to a plate or a bowl so they feel more natural when sitting down at the dinner table. It seems more like a “real” meal when it’s eaten with real dishes even if it does dirty an extra dish.
Are you sensitive about the appearance of your food?

They say ones eats with their eyes. I like to heat up food, for example, on a paper plate in the microwave and then put the food on a real plate.

removing any frozen entre from it’s container is a must here…..appearance of food really makes a difference.

For some the appearance really makes a difference. For the most part, I am a very un-picky eater. Now some of those meals on the other hand, I would likely put them in a bowl just to make them easier to eat. My husband is a very picky eater… he likes things a certain way. He has always been that way.

Presentation makes all the difference in what i eat.

Very interesting topic! I don’t think too much about how food looks unless it’s for a party. But I would probably be more apt to try something if it looked good

I find that using a smaller plate helps me feel like I’m getting more food–it just looks like more, and that simple trick helps me fool myself. It shouldn’t work because I’m fully aware of what I’m doing, but it really helps keep portion sizes down.

That makes perfect sense to me!

Yes, appearance does matter to me. I like my food to look as good as it tastes.
That is a very good trick to help eat something that is good for you but not so good looking. Thank you for the idea and the review.
