Thank you to Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company for providing me with products to facilitate my blog review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Spring is my favorite season! I love watching everything come to life; from the plants, all the way to baby farm animals it’s all fresh, new, and exciting.

Another highlight in spring is planting our family garden. We have the room to plant a large garden so we plant what we will eat fresh, what we hope to preserve, and extras to share with our extended family.

For the last six years, I have gone to Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company for all of my vegetable, fruit, herb, and flower seeds. Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company offers over 1,000 heirloom and rare seed varieties. They have one of the largest selections of 19th-century heirloom seeds from Europe and Asia!

Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company Review

We live in planting zone 8. Near the Oregon coast, we have a short growing season. As the joke goes, we have nine months of cool/cold, wet, windy weather, and three months of warm and dry weather. With that little time frame, I like to get a head start on my planting. We have a small greenhouse in our garden. I try to start our garden seeds at the tail-end of winter/ early spring. I use a good potting mix soil and small containers to get them going. I store my starts on black plastic shelving because the black absorbs and retains the heat. We have done it this way for the last couple of years and it works well for us.

Today, I wanted to take the opportunity to try to answer a few questions you may have before placing your first Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company order. Heirloom Seeds, Rare Seeds, Vegetable Seeds, Fruit Seeds, Herb Seeds, Flower Seeds, Family Garden, Fresh Produce

Are Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company seeds Organic?

All Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company seeds are non-treated, open-pollinated, non-patented, and non-GMO.

Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company acquires seeds from many different sources. Some of the seeds they offer are grown organically and some are grown conventionally. The Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company seed packaging operation does not have an organic certification, therefore cannot label and sell seeds as Certified Organic.

Where does Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company get its seeds from?

Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company has a pool of about 250 independent growers who produce seeds for them. Many of them are small farmers and backyard growers.

Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company does not purchase seeds from Monsanto or any company that patents seeds.

How long will my Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company seeds stay good?

If you place your Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company seeds in an air-tight container and store them in a cool, dry, and dark spot, they could last anywhere from 1-10 years. Some seeds keep their viability longer than others. For example, tomatoes can easily be stored for 20 years and longer. Lettuce begins to lose its viability after a couple of years.

You can also store your seeds in a freezer. If you do, make sure you allow them to come up to room temperature before you open the package. This will help minimize the chance of moisture getting inside.

This sounds like a great place to get your seeds from, I am definitely going to bookmark their website! I love gardening and reaping the benefits of homegrown fruits, veggies, and herbs! Sadly, I had to move and lost my last garden, but we hope to buy our first home soon! I can’t wait to start a lifelong garden of my very own then.

These baker creek heirloom seeds sound so good. and the picture! When I go to the farmers marker I always try to buy heirloom veggies when available. the price high but the taste like real veggies. Going to see Baker Creek site out.
