Redragon sent me their STAR BLADE K707 PRO keyboard for review. All opinions are my own.

A while back I spilled a drink in my keyboard, and started removing keys to clean them. I ended up permanently damaging some of the keys, so it was time for a new keyboard!

Over the past several years, Ryan and I have owned several different Redragon products and we’ve always been really happy with them, so I was excited to try their STAR BLADE K707 PRO keyboard.

Why this keyboard caught my attention

I have a pretty small computer desk with one of those pull-out keyboard trays, so I’m always looking for keyboards that are a bit on the narrower side but still have arrow keys (because I actually use them quite a bit for work). This 80% tenkeyless design is exactly what I was looking for – it cuts out the numpad to save space but keeps all the essential keys I actually need.

I also have to mention that I love how Redragon products come in fun colors and designs. Purple is my favorite color, so when I saw this keyboard came in a combination of white, purple and blue, I was immediately drawn to it. The rainbow backlighting just adds a little bit of personality and fun to my workday, which I really appreciate.

The typing experience

Sometimes when I get a new keyboard, I find myself hitting the wrong keys for a while, especially if the backspace or shift keys are oddly sized or shaped differently than what I’m used to. Despite this being a more compact keyboard, all the keys are nicely sized and I had absolutely no difficulty transitioning to it. The spacing feels really natural.

It’s a mechanical keyboard, so typing on it does produce some sound and has that satisfying tactile feedback that mechanical keyboards are known for. However, it’s not excessively loud, which is important to me since Ryan and I both work from home and are often in the same room. I was worried it might be distracting, but the 5-layer noise dampening they mention really does seem to work – it has that mechanical feel without being obnoxiously clicky.

Wireless convenience

One of my favorite features is the wireless functionality. With my keyboard tray setup, I don’t have to fuss with getting a cord to run from the top of my desk down underneath, which always ends up looking messy. The battery life has been impressive – it lasts me about a week of regular work use before needing a charge.

When it does need to be charged, I can plug it in with the included USB-C cable and continue typing while it charges, so I’m never stuck without a working keyboard. That’s such a practical design choice that I really appreciate.

A few technical details

The keyboard features what they call a “gasket structure” which basically means instead of traditional screw mounting, it uses gaskets to reduce noise and provide more flexible typing feedback. I’m not a keyboard expert by any means, but I can definitely feel the difference – it has a softer, more cushioned feel compared to my old keyboard.

It also has hot-swap functionality, which means you can change out the switches if you want to customize your typing experience further. The keyboard comes with their custom “Mint Mambo” linear switches, and while I haven’t experimented with swapping them out, it’s nice to know the option is there if I ever want to try something different.
