GoodRings sent me rings for review. All opinions are my own.
I finally got married last fall. Prior to getting engaged, I wasn’t someone who really even noticed engagement or wedding rings. I wasn’t a “I can’t wait to get my ring” kind of a woman. Because of that, I was surprised to see how meaningful my rings became to me. I love having a symbol of our love and commitment to each other displayed on our bodies everyday.
So, when my sister and her husband both had sort of bizarre medical events that led them to be unable to wear their wedding rings, I really felt for them. When GoodRings reached out, I was excited to get to help them replace their rings. It was such a perfect fit, because Erica and Kurt had always preferred alternative wedding bands!
When they first got married, Erica’s stone was a black gemstone rather than a traditional diamond, and Kurt’s band was black toned to coordinate with hers. They wore them for several years, but then Erica had an unexpected and sudden swelling in her hand one day. It was really severe, so it wasn’t possible to remove the ring with traditional tricks like using toothfloss. It had to be cut off. She switched to wearing silicone rings full time, to still have some symbol of their marriage.
Then, Kurt had to have surgery on his neck that left titanium in his upper spine. Shortly after, he started having itching and swelling on his finger around his wedding ring. It persisted, and they couldnt’ figure out what was causing it as he wasn’t using any new soaps or lotions on his hands. It turned out, that he had developed a titanium allergy, almost overnight. This happens sometimes when people have surgery that leaves titanium parts in their body. When our bodies detect the foreign object, it naturally tries to fight it, thinking it is a threat. For some people, it continues to try to fight the titanium and the immune system becomes hypersensitive to titanium, creating an allergic response to titanium even outside of the body, such as in a ring! So, he was now allergic to his wedding ring despite it being fine for many years.
This left both of them needing replacement rings, which was unfortunate, but also provided the opportunity to get a new matching or coordinated set. Rings from GoodRings were perfect for them!
I made a TikTok sharing their story – if you aren’t already following us on TikTok, please do!
GoodRings Review
GoodRings is a family owned business out of Washington. Their rings are handmade, and they specialize in rings that are alternative and unique, including parts of meteors, guitar strings, fishing line, antler, whiskey barrel and more! These are great for expressing your identity by showing off your passions or hobbies.
Their rings are available in a variety of variations of tungsten-based rings. They include black tungsten, gold-plated (yellow and rose-gold toned) tungsten, and silver tungsten. This gives you the ability to coordinate your bands with different types of engagement ring metals. Tungsten is considered to be hypoallergenic which is particularly reassuring following Kurt’s recent allergy development.
Erica and Kurt decided go to with The Billings Moss Agate ring set. This set features a wide band of Moss Agate, with silver tungsten on the exterior. However, GoodRings offers Moss Agate in several other ring styles too, some of which include strips of different materials in the same ring. For example, the Bighorn Moss Agate ring has tungsten on the exterior, a layer of moss agate, a rose gold strip in the center, antler, and more tungsten.
The Moss Agate rings are very unique and have an earthy look to them. However, the exterior of the rings being silver-toned tungsten means Erica can get an engagement ring that is sterling silver or white gold and it’ll coordinate nicely! Oh, and we were sent silicone rings in their sizes so they could wear those when doing hard labor or cleaning, anything where they’d want to take their real rings off temporarily.
The Billings ring is available in three widths, 4mm, 6mm and 8mm. Erica’s is 4mm and Kurt’s is 8mm. All widths of this particular ring sell for $149.99 making them relatively affordable compared to many wedding ring options. GoodRings offers free returns and exchanges, and a lifetime warranty.
These are a wonderfully unique set for Erica & Kurt to symbolize their love with. While they didn’t forsee ever needing a second set, they’re really pleased to have found GoodRings!
