Baloo sent me their Daydreamer Weighted Lap Blanket in luna blue with a removable cover to review. There are affiliate links in this article. All opinions are my own.
I have ADHD and anxiety, and while not officially diagnosed, my therapist thinks I likely have autism as well. I also have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which makes my joints loose and causes me to constantly seek proprioceptive input – basically, my body is always seeking input to tell me where my body is in space. For example, I sit on my feet a lot because that sends input to my ankles and feet, which makes it clear to my nervous system where my feet are in space. I sit cross-legged all the time for the same reason – it puts pressure on my hips to provide sensory input to my hips. A few years ago I tried a full weighted blanket, but I found that it made me wake up sore (I think I didn’t move much at night due to the weight) and sweaty because the material wasn’t breathable. So when I received the Baloo Daydreamer Weighted Lap Blanket, I was hopeful but cautiously optimistic.

I genuinely love having this blanket. The fact that it’s made from 100% organic cotton makes such a difference – it’s actually breathable, which was my biggest complaint with my previous weighted blanket. I can use it while working from my computer chair without feeling hot or uncomfortable, and I can also use it hanging around in the evenings without having it cover all of me at night the way a full weighted blanket would. It’s easy to use for a while during the day and then take off, so it doesn’t leave my body sore from the weight.
How I Actually Use It
The blanket is 22 x 36 inches and weighs 8 lbs, and at my height (5’1″) it’s quite generously sized. I can cover my entire legs with it if I arrange it vertically, or if I want to use it just on my lap (hip to knee area) I can actually double it over and still have it cover my entire lap.

I frequently use it as a lap pad while I’m sitting at my desk or on the couch, but I’ve also discovered other uses for it. I really like doubling it over lengthwise and laying it across my shoulders, sort of like a weighted scarf. Having that weighted sensation across my shoulders and neck is really soothing and grounding. And sometimes when I’m feeling anxious in my chest, I’ll lie down with it across my upper body for that grounding sensation.

Here I have the blanket folded over “hamburger style” and it still covers my entire lap!
The Surprising Part
I expected to enjoy this because I routinely seek proprioceptive input – that’s just how my body works. But I was genuinely surprised that my husband, Ryan, also likes it! He struggles with claustrophobia, so I thought that something weighing him down could be an aversive experience for him. However, a couple of times when he’s had high anxiety, he’s tried using the blanket and has actually enjoyed it. It’s nice that it’s sized for the lap or upper body rather than being a full-body blanket – it seems to provide that grounding sensation without triggering his claustrophobic response.

The Cover
The blanket comes with a removable cover, which goes on similar to a duvet cover. It looks like a pillowcase on the outside, but on the inside, it has several ribbons with snaps that you can loop through the main blanket to keep the weighted blanket situated within the cover. It’s a simple system that works really well – the cover keeps the blanket secure without being complicated to put on or take off.

The lap blanket comes in this little tote bag that you can use to store your lap blanket or travel with it, or use for other practical purposes!
Quality and Care
The blanket is filled with lead-free glass beads that are sewn into three differently sized pockets to provide optimal contour and comfort. It’s OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, which means the textiles are trustworthy and safe. Care is simple – just cold water on the gentle cycle and tumble dry on low heat. Since it’s fully machine washable, maintaining it is effortless.
What I really appreciate about this blanket is that it’s made with intention. It’s free from plastic pellets, honoring both sustainability and personal well-being. The breathable organic cotton, the glass beads instead of plastic, and the thoughtful sizing all show that Baloo designed this with people like me in mind – people who need that proprioceptive input but don’t want to compromise on comfort, breathability, or environmental impact.
If you’ve tried weighted blankets before and found them too hot, or if you’re looking for something you can use throughout your day without committing to a full-body blanket, this is worth considering. It’s become a genuine part of my daily routine, and that’s the best endorsement I can give.
