We’ve been “on our own” for over a year and a half now, but my selection of dinners that I know how to cook are still really limited. This is the list, to date
- Tacos
- Pizza
- scalloped potatoes (we love this with ham added. mm!)
- zatarain’s (does this count? haha)
- Basic roast beef/potato/carrot stew
- Fried potatoes/sausage/carrots (not even sure what this is called? haha)
- Steak
- Pork chops / sometimes we shake and bake them
I think that’s it. Might be one or two more that I can’t think of. But anyway I would love your suggestions for dinners to add to our list. We aren’t real into seafood. Other than that most anything is game, though I need to be able to find a recipe or instructions for it online.
I’d really love suggestions for soups. So what do you suggest? What is your favorite dinner to make? To eat?

How about something with pasta? Pasta is the easiest thing to make.. and you can add as much or as little to it as you want. Personally, I like ziti or medium size shells, but obviously spaghetti is pretty popular among pasta eaters.
Make it with ground hamburger (or other meat) or what I usually do, since I’m a vegetarian, is onions, peppers, mushrooms, olives, and/or spinach.. depending on what’s around. And CHEESE of course. I like shredded mozzarella.. but maybe you don’t even like cheese.. -
Spaghetti is an easy choice. You can put hamburger or sausage in it. Whatever sounds yummy.
Another option is crock pot meals. Today I stuck two whole potatoes, some carrots and a whole fryer chicken in the pot on low for eight hours. TASTY!
For soup I head to the crock pot once again. I get the little seasoning packets for beef stew and chicken noodle soup. Follow the directions on the back. Super easy, cheap, and tasty 😀
Good luck on your cooking adventures! Have a blessed week.

Mmm I love potato soup! We make a lot of breakfast. French toast, pancakes, frittatas (Our fave is with bacon, potatoes, spinach, and onions). And stirfrys! I have a WOK and LOVE IT! I go to the farmers market and get lots of fresh veggies, shop them up, add chicken, ham, turkey, beek, or pork with rice or pasta.
