My family is very big, and there is a steady stream of babies being born. No kid ever gets to turn even two years old before the next baby comes along. However, in the past we always had a pretty good mix of boys and girls, and then “the boys” happened. Now when my dads side gets together there are five boys ages 6 and under running around. I also have a 4 year old nephew and a 8 month old nephew on the other side of my family, so seven boys 6 and under were on my holiday list this year. WOW! So when I came across toy state and saw their preschool line, I knew it would be a perfect gift. Honestly, I could have given this toy to any one of the 5 boys ages 2-6 and it would have been adored, as they all love cars and remote controlled cars are even cooler. However, I thought it would be great to try out on my 2.5 year old nephew. He has a particular interest in vehicles, and is harder to shop for than the other boys seems how he’s not yet three, so most toys aren’t safe for him yet. The preschool ez machine from toy state is fine for kids as young as 18 months, and the remote includes just one button so it requires minimal coordination. At first I thought that because the remote only has one button, that it would only ever go forward. However, this toy is a step ahead of my thinking. When you push the button the machine goes forward, and when you quit pushing the button, it spins, and when you start pushing again it goes forward again. So it can go in any direction desired! I wondered whether or not my nephew would pick up on the ‘spin and go’ action of the toy, as it seemed like a big concept to me. I just gave him the toy to play with and he didn’t get it on his own, but I explained it to him and then showed him, and after that he had a blast operating this all on his own without any frustration. This toy state
toy kept him entertained for a long time, and he loves using the dump truck part of the truck even without the remote control. I think this is a great gift idea for any kid ages 18 months – 6 years who has an interest in remote control vehicles, but it’s really great for the 18 months-3 years age. It can be so hard to find age appropriate toys for two year olds. Most toys that are safe for kids under 3 are too babyish for 2 or 2.5 year olds. This was a great fit for my 2 year old nephew, and the other boys (ages 4 and 4.5) enjoyed it as well, so it should keep a kids interest for a couple of years at least. The suggested retail price for the cat preschool ez machine is just 10.00, so it’s a really great value as well! In addition to the preschool car, toy state also sells other remote control cars for older children, even really cool ones like the road rippers remote control car, for ages 7+ that would impress tweens and teens.

  • Oooh, I have an 20-month-old nephew that would love this! I agree with you, it’s hard to find cool stuff for the younger set, it seems like everything has that darn “Ages 3+” recommendation. This looks like a fun one, though!
