“Super Baby Food” is a book dedicated to teaching parents, grandparents, caregivers, and really anyone who has a yearning to learn how to make food and/or feed a baby in the most healthy, natural, and economic way. This book outlines when, how, and what to feed a baby or toddler; how to keep baby food safe; nutrition; how to avoid harmful additives and preservatives; and how to make your own baby food. Keeping in mind every new parent’s lack of time, energy, and memory – Super Baby Food offers simple steps, money saving tips, and quick recipes that can be easily referenced over and over again.

I received my copy of Super Baby Food and couldn’t have been happier to start my journey toward peace of mind, at least when it comes to my kids’ food choices. The size of the book is a little daunting at first, but by page five I knew this book and I would get along great – it states, in big, bold letters, “you don’t need a good memory to read this book.” Whew! I don’t know about all of you, but this parent has sacrificed some precious memory storage space in the child rearing process. The introductory reading suggestions, combined with the cross reference reminders strategically placed throughout the book, make it incredibly user friendly.

The first section (Feeding Your Super Baby) offers valuable tips on when to start solid food, which foods to start with, the consistency, and how much. Knowing that I do NOT know everything there is to know about feeding a baby, I found these tips incredibly helpful. It also outlines feeding needs month-by-month (starting at 6 months, though 11 months). The third section (Toddler and Grown-Up Recipes) picks up the feeding needs after 11 months. I loved, loved, loved the list of “Food Staples for the Well-Stocked Super Baby Food Kitchen.” This is basically a shopping list that you can take to the grocery store to make sure you have the necessities on hand to follow the recipes provided, or just to make sure you have healthy food choices on hand. The remaining sections outline preparation and storage of food, fun stuff, as well as some references.

Overall, I found this book incredibly informative and helpful, and I love the feeling of control that it gives me over my child’s health and nutrition.
