Netflix is a service that I’ve used for about two years now and I love it so much that I’ve suggested it to family members and friends. Our local area only gets about 3 channels on regular TV so we used to pay for cable. We had heard about Netflix but mainly as a mail in dvd rental service and then my favorite online podcast became sponsored by Netflix and they offered podcast readers a free trial month. Seems how it was free we decided to try it out, thinking we’d rent a couple of DVDs even though we weren’t in the habit of renting. At the time, the service came with both the mail in option and instant streaming through our Wii so we set up the wii and looked around. We wound up watching tons of tv and movies over the next couple of weeks and when our trial month finished we realized we hadn’t even turned our cable on in a couple of weeks. We were paying roughly 4 times the cost of Netflix for our cable so it was an easy decision to get rid of the cable and we’ve never missed it at all. We’ve also never rented a single DVD through the mail on Netflix because there is so much content through instant streaming that we never run out of things we want to watch.
We have gotten so used to being able to watch episode after episode whenever we find time that it’s hard to be patient enough to wait on new episodes for shows currently on tv. We’ve definitely gotten spoiled!
When we first got Netflix I rated a lot of videos that I had already watched before so that I could start getting “recommendations for me” and I found several movies and shows that I had never heard of but gave a shot and fell in love with as a result of this tool. I liked how accurate it was at guessing my movie preferences. The one movie that it recommended is definitely in my list of top favorite movies of all time now. Ryan started rating videos based on his preferences as well so it’s not so accurate for me anymore – I’d love to see Netflix allow different profiles so that each person could get recommendations based on their preferences only.
Netflix is available on over 800 different devices so you can watch netflix from lots of ereaders, tablets and smartphones among other devices. Meaning, car rides and doctors office visits will be much more entertaining! It would be a great “add on” to give with a new tech gadget.
Netflix makes a great gift for so many reasons. For starters, at $7.99 a month it’s super affordable but it can also help the recipient save money if they decide to cancel their cable or satellite or even just to cause them to rent movies less or buy movies less. It could be used as a family gift and be used as an “excuse” to have family movie night regularly. It could also be used as a gift between husband and wife or couples and used as an excuse to have stay home movie date nights regularly.
Netflix also has a “just for kids” section that is great for kids 12 and under and helps parents feel confident that their children won’t be able to see movies that are inappropriate for them.
Connect: You can connect with Netflix on Facebook and Twitter.

We have been using Netflix for about 9 years. I do like the instant streaming. I don’t like that they don’t have a good adult parental filter so you can limit what your kids watch when you aren’t around. Oh they have a filter, but it is Crap. It lets through R rated movies and blocks BBC classics and national geographic educational shows.
I also don’t like that it takes FOREVER to get new release stuff on there. It is great if you want to watch older shows and what not. But they aren’t very good at keeping up to date with the newest, biggest shows.
BUT; after all that is over with; we are still loyal Netflix users. Just a few things that really bug us about them; but for the price and what we get we stick with it. We don’t have cable and we can’t even get local channels on the TV. Netflix is our source for TV and movies. Other than those 2 big irritants; Netflix is very near and dear to us and it is used FREQUENTLY every single day.
My kids absolutely LOVE the kids section. I have to tell them that is the ONLY section they are allowed to browse without me around. And even then they sometimes find something we don’t like and won’t allow to watch, but for the most part it is fairly safe for them.

We’ve been using the heck out of that “just for kids” section lately, especially on those odd days that my son has off from school. Love Netflix!

Crazy I have never used netflix. My kids would love the just for kids section. That’s a great stocking stuffer for our oldest. Thanks

Giving the gift of movies and TV shows is one that can be enjoyed throughout the whole year! Last year my Secret Santa at DISH where I work set up my family and me with a free trial of DISH’s Blockbuster @Home and we loved it. We still have it and although it costs around the same as Netflix, we have more choices. We can stream right to our TV, and we can rent as many DVDs, Blu-rays, and video games as we want each month.
It’s nice getting everything we could ever want in the way of entertainment from one place!
I’ve been wanting to check this out. There are certain shows that I like to watch and was wondering if their t.v. shows are up to date.
