There are many important pieces of equipment needed when you have children. Car seats, in my opinion, are one of the most vital pieces since it can mean life or death in an accident.  Anyone who has gone car seat shopping, though, knows just how overwhelming the process can be.  There are so many things to consider and all the options out there seem to make the decision more difficult as opposed to easier.

Since we have four children, we’ve gone through our share of car seats.  We have used many different brands and can honestly say that we have fallen in love with the Diono brand.  Diono is the maker of the Radian RXT which is a convertible + booster seat.  This means that you can start with a newborn and continue using this same seat all the way through booster mode.

Along with all these safety features comes a 10 year life span.  This is the highest I have ever found.  Had we known about Diono from the start, we could have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Our oldest child is 8 and she outgrew three different car seats by the time she was 5.  Sadly, by the time her brother was able to use them, they were almost expired.  This is very frustrating because we spent hundreds of dollars on each of these seats.

Upon taking the Radian RXT from the box, you will immediately notice that this is a heavy seat.  Weighing in at 24 pounds, you can feel the quality.  While some people may think of this as a drawback, I am happy to deal with the extra weight as I know that in an accident, the steel frame will hold up much better than light plastic.  Getting the Radian RXT into user mode is quite simple.  After removing from the box, you need to release the velcro strap that is holding the seat in folded position.  Since this review seat is going to be going to our youngest who just turned one, we needed to attach the piece for rear-facing mode.  Then you just place in the support pads, adjust the belts so they are in the proper position and secure, and remove the information photos and tags that are hanging on your seat and you are all set to install in your vehicle.  If you have any questions on how to correctly install your child’s car seat, check with your local police station and see if they have a CPST that can help you.  We found ours to be very helpful and she took her time to make sure all our questions were answered.

As I mentioned, our little guy just turned one, so we plan to keep him rear facing for at least  a minimum of another year.  When we had our first, the recommendation was only a year old but now the research shows that children are safest rear-facing until they reach the seats limits for that mode.  I’m so happy that Diono makes this high quality seat that will allow us to keep our kids in a 5-point harness till 80 pounds.  Our 8 year old is still in a 5-point harness and will continue to be for as long as possible.

Did you see that last feature?  3 wide!  As a mom of four, I can’t stress how important that feature is.  All of our previous seats only allowed 2 in a row and took up so much room that nobody could buckle in between them unless they were only 6 inches wide.  We were driving a mini-van and were running out of room because our old car seats were taking up so much space.

When I learned about these seats about a year ago, I knew they could be the answer to many of our vehicle space problems.  So we purchased three Diono Radian RXT seats to put them to the test.  We love them.  Some of the seats we’ve had in the past are nice, but for the same price we could have had a Diono RXT and have been set.  Had we known about Diono from the start, we could have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars as these would have been the only seat that each of our children would have needed.

I am so happy to know that all four of our children are now in such a great seat.  The kids like them and I like the fact that they have a lower profile than most so even our (almost) 3 year old can climb into his easily.  If you are in the market for a car seat, give the Diono Radian RXT a look.

I also received the Super Mat Deluxe and Stroller Fan for review.  The Super Mat Deluxe feels well made and sturdy.  Not only does the Super Mat Deluxe protect your seat from permanent indentations and keep your child’s car seat from slipping, it also has a compact zip off changing mat attached at the front for those on the go diaper changes.

The Stroller Fan is another accessory that Diono carries.  It’s made to easily clip on to your stroller frame and the cover prevents your child from getting their fingers in the blade.  Since it runs on 2 AA batteries, not included, it gives off only a slight breeze.  However, it still definitely helps on those really hot days.  Something is always better than nothing when it comes to trying to keep our little ones comfortable.
