*I was provided with a hand drawn portrait of my pets in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.
*This post was written in November of 2013 based on the experience that I had with Mitch Mortmer mailing me a drawing of my dogs. It was a fine experience and I was pleased with the drawing overall (as you will read below). However, he also offered a giveaway and although it ended on December 6th 2013, the winner still does not have her drawing now (it is 5/6/2014, exactly six months later). He offered to professionally frame her free drawing if she wanted to pay $45, which she did back in December. It took until April (and many threats on my behalf) for him to refund the $45. He said 3 weeks ago that she would have the drawing within 3-4 days but it has yet to arrive. As a result, I would NOT recommend that you purchase anything from Mitch Mortimer.
I love giving gifts that feel special and that will be enjoyed for a long time. As a result, I find myself being drawn to photo related gifts pretty regularly. Photo canvases or other art of children, grandchildren or other loved ones can be treasured for years. Yet, I feel like I’ve given photo canvases so many times that it’s almost been overdone. Hand drawn portraits are a much more rare thing to see, and because they are hand created they feel even more special and will be treasured for a really long time.
Mitch Mortimer is an artist who creates pet and people portraits, you just send him photos of the people or pets that you want included in the drawing and he’ll make you a hand drawn portrait of them. He also offers commissioned paintings and lyric paintings. As a music lover, I would love to get a piece of artwork that included some of my favorite lyrics so that I could hang it in my home and be reminded of my song all the time.
I sent Mitch a picture of Frank & Beans, my pugs, and he combined them into a drawing. The yellowish shade seen here is from the scanner, the paper is white or just slightly off-white, it’s not nearly as dark as it appears. It’s super similar to my photos and does a great job of depicting what they truly look like. The piece is 11 inches by 14 inches which is a nice large size that looks great against the wall. I really like the drawing and can’t wait to go get a frame so I can hang it up.
Having a similar drawing made of a child or group of grandchildren would without a doubt make a beautiful Christmas gift that would be treasured for years and probably even generations.
Seems how these are made to order and time is required for shipping (Mitch is located in Canada) it’s best to order fairly early. Check out the Mitch Mortimer Artist website to learn more.
Win it: An 11″ by 14″ hand drawn portrait. Winner can choose if they want the portrait to include 1 or two people OR one or two pets. This giveaway is open to the US and Canada and will end on 12/6/2013 at 11:59pm EST.

I would so love this being an artist myself

I can’t believe his talent! And all that character in his drawings from a simple photograph. I admire his partial departure from the rat race to pursue his dream of making a living through art.
