As a child, I remember dreading going to the doctor. I liked my doctor and I even recall enjoying the waiting room toys that they had. I just didn’t usually feel like getting dressed, going for a drive and waiting in a waiting room when I wasn’t feeling well. As an adult, I’ve found that I have a bad habit of using the “wait and see” method, but by the time that my symptoms are bad enough that I decide I need to go in, I barely have the energy to do so. During the worst portions of the cold and flu season, my doctor’s office has had their entire schedule booked full for 3 or 4 days. In each of these cases, I wish I could just get diagnosed and get medication from my bed or my couch. It’s now possible to consult a doctor without leaving your house.
Amwell is an app that you can download on your phone or tablet. It allows you to video chat with a board certified licensed doctor for immediate, live doctors visits day or night. Of course, Amwell shouldn’t be used for emergency conditions, but it is a wonderfully convenient way to get help with common ailments such as minor illnesses and injuries, prescription refills, and general health and wellness management. Conditions that Amwell can help with include (but are not limited to): fever, bronchitis, cough, sinus infection, sore throat, UTI, vomiting, sprains and strains, anxiety, weight concern and smoking cessation. Amwell doctors can send you a prescription to your local pharmacy if it is decided that you need one.
I was able to test out Amwell. The app itself is free to download and easy to find by simply searching the App store for Amwell, and signing up was quick and easy. I was able to choose from a list of providers who were available for a visit at the time that I was looking to use the app. In addition to seeing the doctors’ names, it tells you what their specialty is so you can select a specialist that best fits your needs. It was so nice to be able to download the app and be chatting with a doctor within minutes.
I can see Amwell becoming a quick favorite with moms (especially those with multiple children), night owls or second/third shift workers, travelers (no need to worry if the doctor near your hotel is in your insurance network), the unemployed, people without insurance and others.
Typical visits with Amwell are $49, but they do accept some insurance so your price may be lower. Plus, you can test out the visit for free on your first visit by using the code ROLEMOMMY.
Do you dread getting stuck in a waiting room when you or your children are sick? Tell me about a time in your past that Amwell would have made your life more convenient.

I love that the first visit is free.even living in a small area we have a stortage of DRs
As a nurse, there has been times when I’ve suffered through things and this would have come in handy. With the changing insurance mandates, the wait times are only going to get longer. This also is another alternative to the shortage of doctors they are seeing now. I really like that the first visit is free.
