GlassesShop.com sent me two pairs of glasses to review. All opinions are my own.

I’ve shopped at GlassesShop.com multiple times over the years and have always been pleased with their products. They’re an online retailer that offers a huge range of prescription glasses at a significant discount compared to what most eye doctor offices charge – which is honestly refreshing when you’re looking to expand your glasses collection without breaking the bank. Recently, I was sent two new pairs to try: the Katherine frames in black and the Astoria frames in cream.

Really dark when in bright light. 

Part of why I wanted to try new glasses was because I’ve recently started to realize I’m more sensitive to visual sensory input than I used to realize. I’ve known for a while that I’m sensitive to noise, but I didn’t fully understand how much light impacts me until I visited Walmart during their sensory hours where they reduce the lighting. That experience made me realize I should probably be more intentional about managing my light exposure throughout the day.

I have a pair of sunglasses, but I don’t wear them very regularly – mostly just when I know I’ll be sitting outside for an extended period, like at the beach or on a long drive. I tend to forget about them for quick trips to the grocery store or post office. That’s where photochromatic lenses (also called transition lenses) have been a game-changer for me. These lenses automatically adjust from regular indoor glasses to tinted lenses based on your lighting conditions. This means I can wear them while working at my computer, then run out to grab something from a store just a couple miles away, and the lenses adjust on their own without me having to consciously remember to swap to sunglasses.

For the black Katherine frames, I chose gray photochromatic lenses, and for the cream Astoria frames, I opted for brown photochromatic lenses. GlassesShop offers different color options for the lenses so you can coordinate with what works best for your particular frame color. It’s a nice detail that shows they think about how the whole package looks together.

Both pairs of glasses feel nice and sturdy – they’re clearly well-made. The photochromatic lenses do make the glasses more expensive than standard lenses would be, but they’re still a significant discount compared to getting transition lenses through an eye doctor’s office. When you consider the convenience factor of not having to manage two pairs of glasses, the price difference feels justified.
