GlassesShop sent me glasses for my review. All opinions are my own.
About a year ago, I got a new pair of glasses. I decided to join in on the sort of “granny glasses” trend. I got some transparent-ish frames with sort of a tan tone to them. Slightly oversized, but not huge. I really liked them! For a long time.
A couple months ago, I realized that some dust or dirt had gotten inside of the plastic. And I could see it, because the frames were transparent! I scoured the web trying to figure out how to get it out of there. I tried soaking them in soapy water, leaving them in a bag of rice (this supposedly works sometimes if there is water in with the dirt?), I tried using pipe cleaners, teeny tiny brushes, and other cleaning tools…but nothing was working. Even though the dirt was trapped inside of the frames, I just was grossed out by it.
So, I decided that transparent frames are not for me anymore, and I got a new pair. Actually, two new pairs! I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go back to some black plastic frames (I wore some version of black eyeglasses for 15+ years!) or if I wanted to try an opaque version of granny glasses.
At GlassesShop, the glasses are so affordable, and often there are great sales, that it’s not a big deal to order two pairs of glasses rather than one. By the way – they currently have a BOGO deal going so it’s a great time to get two pair! So, I got one pair of plastic black glasses, and one opaque pair of mauve color granny glasses to try.
More specifically, the black glasses are the Cooksville frames in black, and the “granny classes” I chose are the Marcia in champagne. However, I typically think of champagne as a golden tan, and that is how they appear online, but in person they often have a pinkish purplish undertone to them in my opinion. I’ll share a variety of photos so you can see how they differ depending on my clothing and surroundings.
If you’re like me and looking for modern granny-esque glasses, the cateye glasses category at GlassesShop is an awesome place to start. The Marcia frames I was sent are considered cat-eye, but they’re a subtler cat-eye shape which is perfect for me. However, if you really want to go for the bold cat-eye look, GlassesShop has plenty of bolder cat eye eyeglasses available. Or if you prefer something smaller and sleeker, check out the oval eyeglasses section instead.
