Taking pictures of your precious little one may not be as easily done as one may have thought. Babies are unpredictable and photo shoots can be challenging! Feltman Bros. offers up these great tips to help you capture amazing photographs and have a successful photo shoot.
TIME OF DAY: Each baby is different so pick the time of day that suits your particular child best. Mornings and just after nap are typically great for smiling while nap time may be best for newborn sleepy pictures.
CLOTHING: Simple and classic speaks volumes! Plan to do only one or two outfit changes and be sure to choose clothing that is easy to get baby in and out of.
PROPS: Utilize children’s favorite toys to capture their attention and the perfect expressions. Instruments or songs may help keep the child in a happy mood.
FOOD/SNACKS: Full tummies offer a happier child. Be sure to bring along extra snacks too, as they come in handy if the child is getting cranky.
LIGHTING: Natural daylight offers the best looks, often giving baby’s skin a soft look. Window lighting can also cast fewer shadows.
BE PREPARED TO BE “ON”: An impromptu game of hide ‘n seek, funny faces, and even goofy sounds may be needed to capture all the perfect faces.
BACKGROUNDS: Keep it simple. The background shouldn’t take away from the child.
SET THE STAGE: Siblings interacting in natural settings can make for cherished photos. Hand over some books and toys and be ready to capture your shots.
BLACK & WHITE: Classic shots using a black or white background are great. Select the Aperture Priority Mode and select large aperture for a soft blurred background for dramatic up-close head shots.
STABILIZERS: Using beanbags as opposed to a tri-pod! This makes it easier to get down to baby’s level and maneuver around. Silver or white reflector can bounce light to create a soft flattering shot.

She is too cute! I always have a hard time capturing photos that do justice to my kids’ personalities. I think candid shots are easier than trying to pose them, especially when I’m trying to get them all together.
