Jerky holds special place my heart as silly as that sounds. It reminds me of when my dad would go deer hunting, my mom would process the deer with him, we’d have venison steaks that night and I always knew jerky wasn’t far behind. I’d beg for a whole deer of jerky and talk about the day when I’d go hunting and get a deer for the sole purpose of jerky. Not to mention getting to take the jerky to school, that felt so awesome, I had a snack through out the day that I could keep in my pocket and munch! Jerky Snob is a subscription box that sets out to showcase small batch artisan jerk companies and open your mind about jerky in general. Jerky Snob values to never use MSG, nitrites, nitrates or high fructose corn syrup, talk about ethics huh!
I received a 1 pound subscription box valued at $54 per month (there is also a half pound box valued at $27 per month). The 1 pound box generally includes anywhere from 6-8 bags of small batch artisan jerky. Within the box was also a description of each company along with some background! The first jerky I tried was this intriguing Mango Chipotle from Sweet Meat. This was lightly spicy but had a unique and tasty combination of sweet mango and earthy chipotle. I see why they named themselves Sweet Meat!
Next up was Bil Tong From Ayoba-Yo. The texture of this jerky was unlike any I had ever had before, it was thin, a little more on the dry side and didn’t have quite as much traditional jerky flavor as what I’m used to.
Pepper Flavor from Clean N Jerky was another jerky unlike I had ever had. I would describe this jerky almost like jerky chips, they were crunchy and dry.
Ah Teriyaki jerky, everyone has had it at some point but have they had a good quality organic version? This jerky met high flavor standards but was a lot more moist and soft them what I would typically choose. My husband and kids however thought I was crazy for thinking it was too soft and devoured the bag.
True Gentlemen’s Jerky. This guys get the award for most articulated flavor combos. The Southern Gent Honey Bourbon was a textural favorite. My husband said that upon first tasting it tasted very similar to a very ripe banana but as you chewed the flavor deepened. You could taste the honey pretty dramatically in this one which I enjoyed.
Up next from True Gentlemen’s Jerky was Sinsa-korean BBQ. This was my top choice between the two. I loved the light spice but the sweet tangy flavors that followed. My husband also liked it and described this one as a whole stir fry in his mouth. Did I mention that True Gentlemens Jerky includes a piece of individually wrapped floss in each bag? Way to hold true to the gentlemen standard!
Righteous Felon, O.G. Hickory, was my favorite jerky from the whole batch. This was so similar to a jerky from my childhood that I could only find at one particular lake store. Righteous Felon did more than remind me of that childhood jerky they improved it, this was similar but had so many more layers of flavor within it. I really appreciated the smoky salty intensity.
Lawless Jerky you play a tune my heart hears when you mention grass-fed beef. Such an amazing step in the ways of jerky and I really appreciate the effort and time spent to source this quality beef. The Sweet Sriracha was a good balance of moist and chewy with all the flavors of Sriracha and the kick that goes along with it. My kids weren’t a huge fan of this as it was a bit spicy for their taste but my husband and I liked it.
Beef Jerky is an amazing in between meals snack. Whether your on the go or recouping from an exercise, jerky can be a great go to. Unfortunately a lot of companies add way too much in the realm of chemicals, preservatives and other yucky ingredients. Jerky Snob seeks out not only healthy jerky, but healthy jerky thats been respective of the clients. The jerky has all been a labor of love to each company that is contained. When you eat jerky from Jerky Snob you aren’t eating just jerky you’re eating someones passion for keeping jerky true to its original ingredients.
I am a stay at home mother of two, who loves to create in every form, from cooking, to henna, to painting or sculpting, creating with my hands is my passion! I love to dance and let loose when the music flows right. Being outside is a special kind of therapy I think humans need more of as well as mindfulness! I love all things new and adventurous and am always looking to experience more of life 🙂

I love beef (and other meat) jerky. I love that you showcased some Organic and Grass fed options. Those would be my favorite. I haven’t seen any of these brands aroudn though, so I guess I better start looking 🙂

I tried a few company’s selections of jerky last year and there was quite a difference between brands. It would really pay to sample the different brands like this box contains. I would have a hard time picking a fave among all these though. I love spicy jerky so maybe the Sweet Sriracha Lawless Jerky brand of grass-feed beef jerky.

Oh, how I love jerky!!! This would be absolutely amazing to arrive at my doorstep everyday!
