Thank you to Jennie-O for providing me with product, free of charge, in exchange for this honest blog review.  All opinions are 100% my own.

My thanks go out to Earl B Jones for starting his turkey raising business in 1940. Fast forward from 1940 to 1953 when Earl launches his first turkey processing plant named after his daughter Jennifer.  From 1953 the company evolved to where it is today, a part of the Hormel Foods Corporation which was founded in 1891.

Little did Earl B Jones or the Hormel Foods Corporation know what an impact they would have on our family Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations in 2015!!

For our review, we received an “oven ready” frozen whole turkey and a frozen bone-in turkey breast.  These products are amazing!  They can be taken from the freezer straight to the oven.  No thawing necessary hence the name “oven ready”.

I don’t know about your holiday get togethers but there is a lot involved in pulling off a family function in our house.  The last thing I need is to worry about thawing the main dish.   It is absolutely wonderful to run to the freezer, take out our main dish, and pop it into the oven.  No muss no fuss.  Hard to mess that up even if you don’t enjoy cooking …and speaking of messing it up, we accidentally put the whole turkey into the pan UPSIDE DOWN.  Although I don’t recommend doing that, I want you to know that it was done on time and I can’t imagine anything tasting any better.

In both cases (the turkey breast and the whole turkey), the meat was moist and tender.  No portion of either item was over cooked or under cooked.  None of my guests had any idea how easy it was for me to serve them these delicious meals…that is until I shared with them my secret…my Jennie-O secret.

We love Jennie-O turkey selection — ground meat, sausages and of course turkey itself. But it’s not easy to always cook turkey to a perfection. I had no idea they are making “oven ready” turkeys, I guess I should talk to our store meat department and order some to try.

That is convenient. I appreciate how economical their meat selections are. I’ll have to try the oven ready turkey version. No need to slave over a hot stove when you don’t have to!

Ive actually always heard that you should cook them upsidedown!! It keeps the juices flowing towards the breasts the whole cooking process!! I love how easy Jenni-o is making cooking a turkey!!

This Jennie o turkey I and s the worst smelling and no taste what a turkey should be in my 60yrs of Thanksgiving. It smells like a large chicken baking not the smell of Thanksgiving day. We are sad over this. The turkey had cuts on the breast cuts on the drumstick blue spot on the leg inside the chest where you stuff it was 4 rib bones sticking up where the ribs were broken and stuck my hand. When it was cooked the skin on the legs were split open and dried up. The breast skin was peeled back and the breast meat was dried out. A bad Thanksgiving for us this year. Never will we buy another Jennie turkey or any other products again.

My Jennie O Thanksgiving breast was disappointing. It was dry, no flavor, no flavor for noodles and sandwiches were tasteless. I ended tossing the entire breast, 6 lbs,, dressing etc.

What a waste of money. Three for dinner so decided turkey breast perfect. Wow! Tough, stringy with so much water in and on it it took forever to dry off to season. Never again.

  • Steven Speer

Stringy and tough is the word. It must have been a Tom turkey. I have eaten jackrabbits right off the desert floor, and it wasn’t as tough as this turkey breast was. I had to chew and chew and chew for 10-25 minutes before I could swallow it.
