I am Nutrisystem nation blogger. I am provided with a Nutrisystem meal plan in exchange for sharing regular updates. All opinions are my own.

In the summer I find that I prefer light meals. I don’t want to do a lot of cooking and heat the house up, and I’m busier so I just prefer lighter foods. Most Nutrisystem entrees feel pretty light in general. Plus, most can be cooked in the microwave in just a few minutes. However, if you want to make your Nutrisystem meals extra-light, my advice is to use your unlimited veggies!

On Nutrisystem, you should eat 4 servings of non-startchy vegetables per day. However, you can eat as many as you would like, there is no limit. Some of our favorite vegetables to enjoy in the summer are on the unlimited list on the Nutrisystem Grocery guide.

Some of our top picks:

  • Asparagus
  • Bell peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Carrots
  • Green beans
  • Lettuce (iceburg or romaine are our favs)
  • Onions

Of course, the Nutrisystem plan also can include fruits (Via SmartCarbs) each day. Relying more heavily on veggies during the summer weather is our favorite way to make meals light and fresh. Nothing compares to fresh fruits and veggies in the summer and on Nutrisystem you can enjoy both in good measure!

What are some of your favorite healthy foods to eat during summer? Do you find yourself leaning towards light meals when it’s hot outside?

I live in the South and it is HOT here. I do as little cooking to heat up the house as possible. I love salads.

When it’s hot out, I don’t like heavy meals. Having a nice salad and lots of veggies seems like such a great dinner for our family.

I am a gardener, so yep, whatever is coming out of the garden, I make use of! I tend also to cook light in summer. I cant eat a ton of lettuce though but I can do the other vegetables easily. I am loving beets right now!
