It seems like Pinterest has really raised the bar on throwing great parties. Whether it’s your baby’s first birthday party, a tailgate party or a wedding reception, everyone turns to Pinterest. I remember being so surprised a few years back when kids birthday parties suddenly became heavily themed. Prior to that, everything was mix-matched and nobody seemed to care. Now it’s normal for water bottles to have custom labels, for food to be suited to the theme with little tags, the whole 9 yards! Yet when you think about it, these little details are actually fairly simple to pull off if you have a printer and can work in a few other creative details.
You can get creative with adult birthday parties too. I enjoyed these tips from Roses Only for celebrating a birthday in style. They recommend small touches such sticking to a theme, preparing a music playlist that sets the tone, and finding a great outfit.
For my sister’s wedding last month, I helped work on some of the decorations. Her colors were gold and silver which were a little tricky to find in matching tones in different products. I never realized prior to her wedding how many different shades of gold there are! Some are much more yellow, while others are closer to copper, with everything in between. Her decorations were ideas she found on Pinterest and they were quite easy to put together but they looked great. She used small glass vases that we put ribbon around in her wedding colors. She found runners in the right colors as well. Then a mirror went under each vase. Behind the wedding table party there was an arch that used matching ribbon to decorate the white arches. Our wine glasses had gold and silver specks painted on them. Even the flower girl’s dress had some silver dots in the details of it. It all turned out really nice in my opinion. It really can be pretty simple to pull together a coordinating party.
What was the last party that you planned? What theme did you go with?

I’m actually starting to plan my husband’s 50th birthday party for this winter. We are having a Mardi Gras party so I’ll go with purple, green, and gold.

I agree, pinterest has almost made moms think they are obligated to have themed parties. I remember birthday party decorations as: a happy birthday banner, a package of balloons blown up, and birthday-themed paper tablecloth, plates, napkins. All from the dollar store!

I do like to do theme parties for my kids Birthday’s, but I don’t usually go all out and spend too much time on it! I like to be able to enjoy the day with everyone too. 🙂 What a beautiful wedding, thanks for sharing!

I am planning a little girl’s birthday party. Oh, it is hard for me to make sure all is brought together. Some Mothers set the bar so high. Luckily LJ is happy with what I have picked out and she can help me make.
