When I was young, the computer game called The Oregon Trail was popular. I don’t recall a lot about the game other than trying to budget money so we could purchase supplies and safely get family members across the Oregon Trail. The Oregon Trail computer game was popular for several reasons but, mainly because we didn’t have very many options back then. It was even more of a hit with my classmates and I because we are Oregonians. While playing the game, I remember trying to imagine what the kids my age had endured as they had traveled through Oregon. Did they pass by landmarks that I was familiar with? What were their dreams and fears? What would they think if they saw us playing a computer game about their journey?

Now I have my own kids that are the age I was back then playing The Oregon Trail computer game. When discussing computer games with them, I have talked about how much fun we had playing The Oregon Trail game. Many times I have said that I wish they could play the old game too.

When Games Adults Play, asked me to review their new board game called The Oregon Trail: Journey To Willamette Valley, I jumped at the opportunity. The new game is about the journey through Oregon’s Willamette Valley. I live in Oregon’s Willamette Valley!

My mom, my youngest daughter and I sat down to play The Oregon Trail: Journey To Willamette Valley game a couple weekends ago. The set-up and start of the game are rather complicated but, once we got it figured out, it reminded me a lot of the old game and brought back good memories.
