I don’t know about you, but spring break sort of snuck up on me. I knew it was coming but, it got here before I was ready for it. I like to be prepared for school vacations with supplies and a few activities planned. That didn’t happen this spring break.
Before we know it, summer vacation will be here. To make sure it doesn’t sneak up on me, I am preparing now. I have 10 supplies that I feel make school vacation better for tweens and easier on mom/dad.
- Sunglasses. UV eye protection is so important. Many people don’t think about eye protection from the sun, the same way they think about skin protection. In fact, eye damage from the sun is the same as skin damage from the sun. There are both cumulative, irreparable and can happen at any time of the year. Having a good pair of sunglasses that provide 100% UVA/UVB protection is a must.
- Sunscreen. As I mentioned above, protection from the sun is very important. Make sure you have a good supply of your favorite sunscreen before summer vacation.
- Journal. Being a tween is difficult. You are no longer a little kid but also aren’t a teenager. This time is full of challenges and changes. Having a journal to write down your thoughts and ideas, is a good way to process through them.
- Camera. A camera is a great way to capture fun memories. Whether you are going somewhere or just hanging out with friends and family at home, document those moments!
- Water bottle. A reusable water bottle is a good thing to have. Drinking water is essential to our health…, especially during the hot summer weather.
- Books. Books are a fun way to entertain and educate. Summer vacation is a great time to find a new favorite author, discover a new book series, or learn how to do something you have always wanted to do.
- Games. We love board and card games. Gather your family and friends for game night. Some of our favorite games are UNO, Battleship, Battling Bones, and Pass the Pig.
- Headphones. Most tweens enjoy listening to music. A good pair of headphones allows them to listen to their music without disturbing those around them.
- Hobby supplies. If your tween has a hobby, surprise them with a few new supplies.
- Activity tracker. An activity tracker is a great motivator for getting exercise. Challenge your tween to reach a certain number of steps each day. When you both do it, it makes it fun.
With these 10 supplies on hand, you and your tweens are ready for a fun summer vacation!
Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
