Thanks to Kontu for sending me a set of their STEM blocks. As always, all opinions are my own.

If you’ve followed the blog for awhile you know that we have chosen to homeschool our kids. This will be Harper’s second grade year and Lincoln is just four so we’ll work on some general skills with him but nothing too structured. One thing both kids will be using this year are our new Kontu STEM Blocks!

Kontu Magnetic STEM Blocks

These Kontu Magnetic STEM BlocksĀ are made in Thailand from sustainable rubber tree wood and securely embedded rare-earth magnets. Created by an engineer father who was curious about how to support his infant daughter’s developing brain, these blocks were made to help children with early math skills which are indicative of successful learning in the future.

Currently available for pre-order, Kontu Blocks come in three kit options:

  • Hello Numbers Kit – $49.99
    • 20 Pieces
    • 8 Activity Cards
    • 18 Numeral and Shape Cards
  • Let’s Go Bigger Kit – $69.99
    • 30 Pieces
    • 8 Activity Cards
    • 18 Number Cards
  • Super Mega Awesome KitĀ – $99.99
    • 50 Pieces
    • 8 Activity Cards
    • 18 Number Cards

Kontu Blocks are screen-free and great for learning through open-ended play or more guided play using the activity and numeral/shape cards. If you have younger children (like my Lincoln), they will benefit just from playing with the blocks. He enjoys building with the blocks, balancing, and learning about the push and pull of magnets. Our daughter Harper loves using the activity cards to complete tasks and learn about more complex math concepts.

Math literacy is so important and I’m thankful that both of my kids are very interested in math concepts and have been from a young age. This makes teaching easier on me! But even if your kids aren’t math-inclined, Kontu Magnetic STEM Blocks teach kids concepts like weight and counterbalance, construction, fine motor skills, magnetism, and more just through play.

I’m excited to incorporate these into our homeschool curriculum this year and they’ll also be a great tool to keep Lincoln occupied and still learning while I work with Harper on other subjects. Visit the Kontu website to pre-order these blocks on August 15th!
