Sweet zzz mattress protector

We’re working on budgeting for a new mattress. We’ve had our current one for six years and six years is how often it’s recommended to replace your mattress. Mattresses aren’t cheap, of course, so we try to ensure we take good care of ours. One way that we try to do that is by always using a mattress cover. 

Using a mattress cover is one of the easiest ways to take care of your mattress by providing a layer of protection between any food or drink spills, sweat, skin cells, etc from actually getting into your mattress itself. It’s way easier to throw a mattress protector in the washer and dryer than it is to try to deep clean a mattress! 

Sweet Zzz’s mattress protector is made from 100% natural eucalyptus fiber and is waterproof. Eucalyptus trees require very little water and are therefore an environmentally friendly material to use for fiber. The fabric is naturally breathable and cooling which is great for maintaining a comfortable temperature as you sleep.

Not really much to look at, it’s just solid white but that’s okay! Nobody will see it anyway. 

The fibers this is made out of are hydrophilic and will wick away moisture so if you get overheated at night, this mattress protector can help keep you try which can assist in you staying more comfortable as you sleep. I “sleep warm” in general, especially in the summer so I really appreciate this! 

While the mattress protector can keep your mattress dry and clean, it is also healthier for you. Using a mattress protector can assist with allergies because allergens can get washed out of the mattress cover rather than settling into your mattress itself. Did you know that allergens in mattresses primarily come from dead skin cells getting into the mattress and acting as ‘food’ for dust mites? It’s true! Dust mites also thrive in humid environments, so the cooling properties of this mattress also reduce allergens. 

The mattress cover feels really soft to the touch. I’m not well-versed in different types of fabrics, but it feels pretty similar to cotton. I put a fitted sheet over our mattress cover, so I don’t really feel the mattress cover itself except when I am putting it on our bed or taking it off to wash. Anyway – I do think it is soft enough that you could sleep directly on it if you wanted or needed to for some reason. There is no “slick” or plastic feeling to this mattress protector at all. It won’t make noise as you roll over or move around in bed the way some matters protectors will. 

While I can’t personally speak to the waterproof properties myself as we haven’t had any liquids spilled on ours, there are glowing reviews on the Sweet Zzz website from people who have used this mattress while having incontinence issues.

My mattress is 10″ thick and this mattress protector covers the top and sides and has a few inches that stretch along the bottom side as well. I like how it’s deep enough to reach the underside a bit, as it reduces how often the mattress cover will pop off the corners of the mattress. I don’t know why, but I’ve always been really annoyed by mattress covers or fitted sheets that pop off frequently!
