Vornado air circulator review

Vornado sent me their 6803 OSC pedestal air circulator in black to review. All opinions are my own.

Ryan and I both sleep better with a slight chill, so this fan has been living in our bedroom for a couple of months now. Vornado describes the 6803 OSC as a step above typical pedestal fans, with whole room circulation from its Vortex Action technology. I was hopeful about that part going in. In my experience, it’s a strong, sturdy fan, and I don’t think it does much that a regular fan doesn’t already do.

The Vornado 6803 OSC pedestal air circulator has four speeds, plus an auto speed mode that adjusts for you. It oscillates 90 degrees, and that’s optional, so you can keep it pointed in one spot if you prefer. The height adjusts from 35 to 44 inches, and it comes with a remote and a 1 to 8 hour timer. The grille comes off for cleaning, and there are five scent pads for aromatherapy. Vornado also offers a 5-year satisfaction guarantee.

This fan is VERY strong. We’ve only ever used level 1, and even on that setting it moves a lot of air. Vornado rates its airflow at up to 1,212 feet per minute measured one inch from the grille, and that’s easy to feel. Levels 2 and higher are where it gets loud. Compared to our old fan, it’s a fair amount louder, and I think I’d struggle to tolerate level 3 or 4 for long. I’m sensitive to sound, so that matters a lot to me, but it’s worth knowing before you go past level 2 even if sound doesn’t bother you much. Vornado lists 38 decibels on low, and level 1 is where we’ve stayed.

Mostly we pointed it at our bed, as usual. For the sake of testing the circulation idea, we also pointed it at the ceiling and at a wall, since some people say a sturdy surface helps the air bounce around the room. We didn’t really notice a difference. We never got that “air circulating around the entire room” feeling, no matter where we put it.

The sturdy base is part of what impressed me. The base has several feet, and I’ve bumped into it more than once. It doesn’t tip over the way our old tower-style fan would. The height range is also useful for aiming the airflow where you want it. We have the remote too, but we haven’t used it yet.

If you want a sturdy, strong fan that moves a lot of air, I’d suggest it. It’s a good fan.
