One product that has been on my radar for a couple years now is a portable ice maker.  While we used to have an ice-maker inside of our freezer, it died less than five years after purchasing the fridge.  To replace would have cost a couple hundred dollars and the salesman told us that they are only built to last a couple years now, whereas, they used to make them last for a long time.  So we left empty handed and have resorted to filling our two ice cube trays constantly.  During the Winter, we can make do but we are always out of ice during the Summer.  So when I had the chance to work with Newair and share one of their products with you, I was really excited.

I received the NewAir AI-215R Portable Ice Maker for this review.  I was happy to see it arrive in June because we have a big double birthday bash coming up in July for two of our boys and I was really dreading trying to figure out how to get enough ice on hand without heading to the gas station and buying it.  We will need quite a bit for the beverages as well as to fill the pool that we will keep the cold salads in so they stay fresh and cool.

The set up for the AI-215R Portable Ice Maker was minimal.  After removing from the box, the instructions say to leave the ice maker sit for about 24 hours.  So, the next day, we ran a cleaning cycle with equal parts vinegar and water and then we were all set for regular use.

We have found this particular ice maker extremely easy to use.  To run a cycle, just press the power on/off button, select which ice cube size is preferred, and pour in the correct amount of water.  That’s it!  The Ice Maker automatically gets to work and within just a few minutes, I hear the sound of ice cubes plopping into the tray.  So easy!

The NewAir Portable Ice Maker has been great so far.  We have been making a batch of ice almost daily to keep our water and beverages ice cold.  Not only is is easier for the kids and I to grab some ice now with the flip of a lid, but it’s also easier to fill ice maker as opposed to the plastic cube trays.
