The zulugrass jewelry pictured above is created by Maasai women from Kenya. Their area had experienced a drought that ended in 2001 and creating zulugrass jewelry has allowed them to create better economic situations for their families. You can certainly feel good about shopping at leakey because your money is greatly benefiting these women.
When it comes to jewelry, I tend to be very picky. Rather than changing my jewelry based on my outfit that day, I tend to have one set of jewelry that I wear almost all the time. In certain cases I will wear different jewelry but usually only for nicer occasions such as weddings. When I saw the zulugrass jewelry at leakey collection, I immediately fell in love. I enjoy jewelry that is simple without being boring and that certainly describes the zulugrass jewelry items. The individual strands come in either one color or two colors each and can be used as necklaces, bracelets or anklets depending on how many times you wrap them around.
My plan was to wear them as bracelets but I seem to have a bad wrist size, as wrapping three times around makes the bracelet too big, so it slides down almost to my elbow when I reach up but four times around leaves marks on my wrist. Ryan’s wrists are much larger than mine, so out of curiosity I had him try wrapping it three times to see if it would fit him but it was still much too large. So I think that to use this as a bracelet you’d need to have a wrist size smaller than mine which is about 7 inches around. When wrapped three times, they are slightly too tight on my ankle. These still work for me well as a necklace though. I think they would also work for covering up a ponytail if wrapped around several times. I wish that these fit me better as I love their simple beauty.

I love how simplistic they look! Luckily (not really lol) I’ve always had bigger hands, so they would stay on my wrists fine 😀
