We really enjoy finding fun products to enhance learning. It’s a known fact that children learn best through play and hands on experiences and activities. Part of the reason I chose to homeschool was because I remember the hours I wasted staring at the clock in school wishing time to go faster. However, on the days where experiments were conducted or field trips were held, learning went hand in hand.  So when I had the chance to partner with the Young Scientists Club, I was excited to be able to share what I found.

The Young Scientists Club was founded in 1999 with a mission to provide amazing educational science adventures that will be remembered for a lifetime.  They have  a team of experts consisting of scientists, parents, Harvard graduates, and educators that work together to provide these fun, fascinating, and quality learning in each box or product they offer.

We were sent The Magic School Bus Exploring The Wonders Of Nature Kit for review.  I wasn’t sure what to expect but when the package arrived the package was a little smaller than anticipated.  However, that little box packs a big punch.  There are lots of experiments and activities in this kit.

I opened the guide (instruction booklet) that was included and discovered twelve different experiments and activities.  Most of the materials needed are included except some very basic items that are typically around the home or found in nature.  (Example: Leaves, Crayons, White Paper.)  I figured the best place to start would be at the beginning.  The very first experiment was to make a bug house.  Amazingly, we had just emptied our oatmeal container that morning when we made monster cookies and my daughter had saved it for “projects” and that was the main ingredient for our bug house.  So we followed the instructions and built our bug house, which was needed on the next page for Carol’s Experiment: a Scavenger Hunt.  We read the notes and had a small discussion before we headed out.  The kids were so excited.  They spent over an hour outside on their Scavenger Hunt.

When the Scavenger Hunt was finished, the kids were bursting with excitement over all of the things they saw, collected, and experienced.  It was so fun listening to them talk to each other and share.  We skipped over a few pages to another experiment that used some items found during the Scavenger Hunt.  I really like that each page has all the details laid out and additional fun facts and learning weaved in.  We all sat down and used the magnifying glass to examine our treasures.  After that, we learned about the parts of leaves and did leaf rubbings and drawings.

Then, we still journeyed on to play the animal trackers game.

We had such a great time using our “Exploring The Wonders Of Nature” Science Kit from The Young Scientists Club and we still have lots left.  The kids are so excited to incorporate this into our days.  We still have: building an ant farm, press live flowers, create a bear footprint cast, create a paper mache’ ant, make a transparent egg in a jar, and sun flower art left!    As I mentioned earlier, this little package packs a big punch for learning and fun!
