I have come to realize that not all carriers are built alike. I have loved wearing our children ever since we had our second. While I tried wearing our first child once or twice, the carrier I had was very low end, cheaply made, and extremely uncomfortable for both of us. She cried the whole time and we were both miserable. So I resorted to using my arms all-the-while knowing there must be a better way. After speaking with a friend after I saw her, very comfortably, wearing her infant, I had a renewed interest in learning more and giving baby-wearing a second try. Thankfully, my next baby-wearing venture was successful and I have since worn our next three boys and plan to baby wear any future children we may have as well. Because we have found such joy, peace, and comfort during baby-wearing, we have come to acquire a small collection of carriers. Each carrier serves a purpose (or multiple purposes) and some even earn the title of “the one to buy if you plan to only purchase one.” I was happy to partner with Action Baby Carriers when they requested to send me a carrier to review.

I was sent the Action Baby Camper Toddler Baby Carrier.  I was already familiar with Action Baby Carriers because I own their Canyon Baby Carrier.  Essentially, their Baby Carrier and Toddler Carrier are the same design with just a little moderation.  The “body” of the Toddler Carriers is 3 inches taller than the Baby Carrier.   The “hood” is also slightly longer to accommodate and support a larger child.

First off, I like that Action Baby packages their carriers in a carry bag.  While I wish the bag was made of cloth material or slightly sturdier plastic, I still appreciate having a bag to keep the carrier clean and protected when not in use.  I always keep a spare carrier in the car and a bag is helpful.  With that being said, I had my Canyon Action Baby Carrier in our van this past Summer and a cat got in our garage.  It jumped through the window and pooped on my carrier.  I was not a happy camper to say the least.  (Guess I should have kept it in the bag!)  With that being said, I hosed the carrier down with Shout and washed it.  It turned out beautifully!  You would never know the trauma that the carrier (or I) went through.

I really like the design  of the Action Baby and Toddler Carriers.  The carrier has nice wide straps and extra padding for comfort.  All the buckles are easy to click and un-click and feel solid and heavy duty.  The straps for adjustment are easily pulled and loosened to get the optimal fit for all body sizes and types.

My favorite part of the Action Baby Carriers is that they are able to be worn on the front and back.  I especially like that the straps are criss-crossed during front carry to provide even distribution of weight.  The Canyon Action Baby Carrier was my go-to front carrier during the first year of our fourth child’s life.  He loved it and so did I.  The reason I chose this carrier over and over was because of the support hood.  When he would fall asleep, I would snap the hood up and pull the straps tight and I was able to cook, clean, and take care of our other three children without disturbing our baby.  I could bend over and his head stayed tight against my chest.  No other carrier I own could do that!  (At 18  months, he is no longer thrilled to demonstrate the hood up and was trying to pull it down for the photo.)

All in all, Action Baby Carriers has created a really great product.  The only thing I could think of that would possible improve the back carry comfort would be to have slightly longer padded straps so the buckle on the front would be a little more comfortable.  Even with that suggestion, I’d still highly recommend these carriers.  I have worn our son in Action Baby Carriers for hours and hours in one day and have been very comfortable.
