Have you ever heard of Wikki Stix? If not, you’re missing out! They are quite simply one of our favorite craft items! But that doesn’t tell you what they are, does it? Wikki Stix are sticks of hand-knitting yarn that are covered with a food-grade, non-toxic, latex and peanut/nut free wax. It makes them both a little stiff (sort of like pipe cleaners but more flexible) and slightly sticky. They won’t break or tear but they can be easily cut with scissors.

Wikki Stix gently adhere to anything! They stick to themselves, to walls, mirrors and windows, to appliances, anything really. But they are also very easy to remove, they peel right off just like a sticky note and can be used over and over again. They come in different sizes and many different colors. You can get Wikki Stix alone or in a kit like the ‘Travel Fun Kit’ or the ‘Valentine Box’. For this review, I received the Designer Piggy Bank.

In this set, there is an adorable ceramic piggy bank as well as 72 6-inch long Wikki Stix in a variety of colors. This ceramic piggy bank was a hit with my daughter before we even started decorating it. She kept saying that it was cute and wanted to fill it with coins. It measure about 9 inches long and 8,75 inches in girth so that’s going to take a while…

Wikki Stix are so easy to use, I only told my daughter to stick them on the piggy whichever way she wanted and she jumped right into it! She was able to fold the sticks in half or roll them up in small balls (I think she was going for a polka dot design). She also asked if we could give her ‘rainbow ears’ and bows which we did.

The whole activity was great. It was a quiet table activity that lends itself to great conversation. We talked about pigs, about what they do and eat. About how our pig was special and could ‘eat’ coins. As we were decorating it, we talked about how the money inside the pig could be saved to buy something special. She has yet to learn about money so she doesn’t quite know what she’d like to buy with her money but I think it’s a great time to teach her about saving. If she were older, we could have decorated it with an image of what she’s saving for (a doll, a bike, etc.).

So far, I haven’t noticed much residue on our fingers or on the surfaces we apply our Stix to. It’s not 100% residue free so I notice more fingerprints on shinny or smooth surfaces (my cell phone screen for example) if we don’t wipe our hands on a damp cloth. It’s not like our fingers leave stains or anything so it’s all very easy to remove with a damp cloth. It’s also entirely preventable if we just keep a damp cloth handy to quickly wipe our hands. Either way, it’s definitely one of our least messy craft activities to do. No brushes and jars to clean, no beads or glitter strewn all across the table and floor, no paint or glue to wipe off of fingers, etc.

They are so versatile, you can use them to create a flat piece of art, or even a 3D one! They can also become great teaching tools both at home and in the classroom. They are also a fun way to work on fine motor skills and dexterity.

That’s not all Wikki Stix can do. You can stick note on your stainless steel fridge. I miss our old magnetic fridge and I’m happy I found a way to put notes and photos on our fridge again.You can also keep your cords neatly rolled up. You can secure small items such as decorations. You can tie snack bags shut. You can keep small items such as pins or buttons together by sticking them on a Wikki Stix. I’m actually thinking about getting another kit just for this type of small household jobs.

I really like our Wikki Stix and our Piggy Bank. Wikki Stix are a fun way to express creativity. They can be used in as many ways as you can think of. They’re easy to use and require no clean-up to speak of. They can also be great educational tools and household helpers! Thematic kits will also provide hours of fun.
