Funnybone Toys ~ 2015 Toys ~ Juxtabo and Spectracube Review & Giveaway

Games can provide hours of fun and are a great way for kids to learn as well as practice the art of being a good sport.  I love having a variety around the house for the kids use as well as for us adults when we have company over.  So when Funnybone Toys shared that they have two new games for 2015, I was excited to check them out.

Juxtabo is a unique 3-D game that combines chess, checkers, and puzzles to create a fun new game.  Included is: 126 Juxtabo Stacking Pieces, 125 Different Challenge Cards, 8 Card Holders, Timer, Carrying Bag, and Instruction Book.  The board is created with a variety of the Juxtabo pieces so it’s different each time you play since players are constantly adding chips to the board.  I couldn’t find the age recommendation for this game but I played with our 8 year old and 4 1/2 year old boys.  I definitely had to help our younger son out but the 8 year old was really great at finding the right combinations to match his cards.  We didn’t follow the rules completely since it was a little hard for the 4 year old and, after awhile, we ended up placing our cards on the table and just leaving them lay out in the open.  Honestly, we were all so busy watching our own cards and yelling Juxtabo when we found a match that we barely glanced at anyone else!  Overall, we like this game but it is definitely challenging.  I’d recommend ages 8 and up for playing by the rules but it can definitely be adapted for the younger ages.

Spectracube is a dice game that actually offers six games in one.  I’ll focus my review on our favorite which was Greedy Grab.  The boys and I were playing this outside when my husband finished up chores.  After coming over to see what all the hollering was about, he had to join in!  Everyone starts with two dice (one bold and one pastel) and then six dice (three of each) are placed in the middle of the table.  Each player takes a turn shaking the six and laying them out in a row.  Then, the dealer shouts “greedy grab” and everyone rolls their two dice and grabs any matches from the middle.  If any are left, another shake is called until they are gone.  The player with the most at the end of each rounds scores 2 points.  First player to 10, wins!  This game is geared for ages 6 and up but our 4 1/2 year old has no problems playing this particular one.  I love that it comes with a pouch and is very portable.  Perfect to bring with anywhere!  The only thing I’d like to see changed are the colors.  The difference between the bold and pastel is not very profound so even us adults sometimes make mistakes in matching them.  Overall, a great multi-use game since it provides six playing options.
