Pregnancy and miscarriage. What I assumed would be so easy and natural didn’t really turn out that way for my husband and I. While I don’t talk about this often, over the span of our 12+ year marriage, we’ve endured 4 miscarriages. Yes, we are very blessed with five children here on Earth but my heart will always long for the four that are missing. When the regular medical doctors couldn’t help or find any reason for our losses, I turned my search to alternative care providers. One thing that was brought up was our environment and the things we are exposed to on a daily basis. Of course, there was no way to know for sure what would help, but I made several changes as I wanted to be pro-active and do what I could.
- Food: When the natural path doctor suggested diet as a possible culprit, I went home and cleaned out our pantry cupboards and rid our home of all the sugar-laden and processed foods. While this was an extreme and costly move, after having just suffered our 3rd miscarriage within 3 years of getting married, I just needed to DO something.
- Cleaning Supplies: I also had a small cleaning closet with 3 shelves of chemical cleaners that I tossed. I mainly switched over to cleaning with water and vinegar.
- Personal Products: Even our soaps and deodorants were not safe from me. I changed over to companies using pure ingredients or home made versions.
Do these steps guarantee we won’t suffer from a 5th miscarriage? No. But I definitely feel better about striving to clear our home and environment from unnecessary chemicals. And while I’ve loosened up a little from my complete purge back in 2006, I still strive to use the best and safest products for my family as often as possible. I’m a city girl turned country by my awesome husband and we have three busy boys and two darling daughters. I love spending time with my family, reading Karen Kingsbury novels, and catching up with friends while our kiddos have play dates. I’m blessed beyond measure and can’t wait to see what God has in store.
