I love coming up with fun activities for our kids to do on holidays or for special celebrations. But I typically don’t want to spend a lot of time or money prepping so sometimes it takes a little more thought to come up with something fun. This year, I decided that we’ll be doing an electronic scavenger hunt!
What You’ll Need:
- Magazine, Clip Art, Or Photos
- Construction Paper
- Marker
- Tallied List Of Your Numbered Scavenger Items
- Smart Phone, Tablet, Or Digital Camera To Take Photos (**See note at bottom for alternative.)
For the scavenger items themselves, I decided to go with pictures. I printed out a couple clip art Valentine themed photos and then picked up a few free magazines at the local library. I scoured the magazines and cut out a variety of things, some geared for Valentine’s Day and some not. I searched for a variety of picture sizes and once I found 25 pictures, I got to mounting them on construction paper. (You could omit this step but I wanted a slightly sturdier backing as well as a very visible place to write the number since this will be for preschoolers through high school aged children.) Then number your items accordingly and create a corresponding list for the searchers to find.
When it’s time for the hunt, hang the numbered pictures in age appropriate spots for the finders. Then, send the kids loose with their (or your) phones, tablet, or digital camera. They can work in groups or separately and as they find each one, they need to snap a photo of it. Once complete, or whoever finishes first, gets whatever prize you’ve chosen to be the reward.
****To adapt for younger children if you don’t want to use an electronic device, just make duplicate copies of all the scavenger pictures and the children can collect the physical copies of each instead of just snapping a photo.
What do you have planned for your kiddos this Valentine’s Day?
I’m a city girl turned country by my awesome husband and we have three busy boys and two darling daughters. I love spending time with my family, reading Karen Kingsbury novels, and catching up with friends while our kiddos have play dates. I’m blessed beyond measure and can’t wait to see what God has in store.

This is a fabulous idea! I may use this for Easter – we still hid eggs with change and candy for our two kids. They would love this.
