I was sent products from Zenhaven in exchange for this honest blog review. All opinions are 100% my own.

I recently read that more than a third of Americans have trouble sleeping at night. The article I was reading went on to say that more than fifty percent of those asked, said they had trouble falling asleep at least two or three nights a week. Those stats caught me off guard. I didn’t realize that many people had problems sleeping. Getting a full night of sleep is so important. When we don’t get enough sleep it not only affects our mood, but it can be devastating to our health.

With sleeping being so important, we need to do what we can to ensure we are getting enough of it.  I find these eight steps helpful towards getting a full night of sleep.

  1. Reduce stimulants and alcohol. This will help your body naturally wind down for the evening.
  2. Clean and minimize your bedroom. Having a bedroom full of stuff is overwhelming. Remove things that don’t need to be there. Create a relaxing oasis.
  3. Make sure you have good bedding and the right mattress for you. Having a mattress with the right support is super important! The Zenhaven all-natural latex mattress responds to every curve of your body. It provides pressure-free support in a unique five-zone design that gives you firmer support where it is needed for ultimate comfort and spinal alignment. The Zenhaven mattress has an organic wool layer that wicks moisture and provides the mattress with breathability.
  4. Wash up. Take a bath or a shower before bed. It helps your muscles and mind relax.
  5. Set the mood in your bedroom each night. Turn down the temperature in your room, close the curtains, dim the lights, and turn off electronics. Perhaps turn on an essential oil diffuser with some lavender oil.
  6. Keep a notepad next to your bed. We all have those moments right before falling asleep where we remember something that we need to do. Write it down so you can rest knowing it will be taken care of tomorrow.
  7. Create a sleep routine and stick with it. Go to bed and wake at the same time each and every day. After doing this for a while, your body will recognize the routine; you will fall asleep faster and wake feeling rested.
  8. If you continue to have sleep issues, check your nutrition. Are you getting the essential vitamins and nutrients in your diet? Try taking a magnesium supplement. When we are low on magnesium, it can definitely affect our sleep.

I hope you rest well my friends.

Great tips! I love the notepad beside your bed idea–racing thoughts is a real problem for me when I am trying to sleep at night!

These are good ideas. I do most of them. I will have to work on the others. Thank you.

I really need to come up with a better routine and relax more before (maybe the shower idea you had) Some nights I’m ready for bed at 9:30 pm other nights 1 am.

These are great tips, thanks for sharing! I find that “unplugging” by turning off computers/tablets and my cell phone a couple hours before bedtime helps me a lot. I also don’t drink caffeine before I go to sleep. My husband constantly gets up to go to the bathroom at night so he tries to not drink anything before bed.

I struggle at times with sleep. I may have to look at the magnesium aspect since I already do most of the rest.

I do have issues with getting to sleep. I had not heard of the magnesium tip before. I am going to be getting my blood work done soon and I’ll definitely be checking that!

Alcohol will get you everytime. Drinking water helps to keep the body clean and that is what most of us need especially when getting up in age.

The cleaning thing is important. I never sleep as well when my bedroom is messy.

These are some great tips. I find if I go to sleep too late, past 12am or later, I cannot get to sleep.

This is a lot of great information that many people can use. My family hates me because most of them have trouble sleeping. My mother and sister have been on pills for years. When I am ready for sleep all I have to do is lean back, close my eyes and I am out in minutes.

These are some great suggestions. I do need to keep a notepad by my bed because all those things I need to remember to do keep me awake many nights.
