We are a family that loves spending time outdoors, and one of our favorite activities is going for bike rides together. We’re lucky enough to live near the Lake Wobegon Trail, which gives us a great place to get outside, bike to one of our favorite seasonal restaurants, and spend some quality time together. There is one little challenge, though; we live on a hill! And if you’ve ever finished a nice bike ride only to realize you still have a big hill to climb to get home, you know that the last part of the ride isn’t always the most fun. That’s one of the reasons I’ve been excited to try the Schwinn Parkwood Electric Bike!

Schwinn Parkwood Electric Bike

The Schwinn Parkwood is an electric bike designed to make riding easier and more enjoyable. It combines the familiar feel of a traditional bicycle with a little extra help from an electric motor when you need it. One of my favorite things about the idea of an electric bike is that you can still pedal and get exercise without feeling like you have to do all the work yourself. The Parkwood offers adjustable pedal assist as well as a throttle for additional flexibility. It also has a step-through frame, which makes getting on and off the bike easier.

Having the Lake Wobegon Trail nearby is such a bonus for our family – I think it actually connects with the Soo Line which is a bit north of us. One of our favorite places to bike is Art in Motion (aka BOHO Cafe) on the Wobegon Trail. It’s the most amazing seasonal restaurant, coffee, and ice cream shop in our tiny town! It has a major bike-centric theme and a large number of people who visit are coming right off the trail. They even have this amazing vintage Schwinn bike as decor! 

An electric bike like the Parkwood is a fun option for exploring trails and enjoying longer outings without worrying quite as much about getting tired along the way. It has a comfortable, upright riding position, multiple assist levels, and wide tires designed with comfort and stability in mind.

One thing I appreciate about electric bikes is that they don’t have to be intimidating, even if you’ve never ridden one before. The Parkwood still feels familiar because you’re riding a bicycle, but you have the added benefit of electric assistance. You can start with a lower pedal-assist setting and get comfortable with how it feels before using more assistance when you need it. The bike also has a seven-speed drivetrain and an easy-to-read display, so you can keep track of useful information while you ride.

I think electric bikes are a great option for people who want to get into biking but worry about keeping up, tackling hills, or getting worn out too quickly. You can still pedal and enjoy the ride, but you have some extra help when you need it. And in my opinion, when something makes it easier for the whole family to get outside and enjoy an activity together, it’s definitely worth considering!

They’ve both been great additions to our weekend family bike rides, and have made getting up that final home-stretch hill SO much easier!
