Did you know that it’s “Get Caught Reading Month”? Jim Henson’s Dinosaur Train has teamed up with Reader’s Digest Children’s Publishing to celebrate the Association of American Publishers second annual Get Caught Reading campaign. Reading can be fun for all ages; Dinosaur Train wants to show your kids just how much fun it can be.
Dinosaur Train is a series that uses a preschool age T-Rex dinosaur to appeal to preschoolers’ dinosaur and train fascination to build scientific thinking skills. The series focuses on basic life science, natural history, and paleontology concepts.
For my review, I received the book “Guess Who, Buddy!” Guess Who Buddy! uses the same character to introduce preschoolers to several different dinosaur species (Peteinosaurus, Triceratops, and Cretoxyrhina).
I read Guess Who, Buddy! with my five year old Nephew and he loved the way the book was laid out. His favorite feature was the moving parts on every page – he was able to hear the story, and then lift up a piece to reveal the kind of dinosaur that was being discussed. He also really enjoyed the last page that features a big pop-up picture of all the dinosaurs. The last page also asks the question, “Can you remember all of the friends we met?” This allowed us to spend some extra time going back through the book and talking some more about the different dinosaurs. The dinosaur names were a little difficult for him to remember, but as we went back through the pages it sparked his curiosity and he asked a lot of questions about what they ate, where they lived, and why they all died off. Now every time he sees a dinosaur on TV or in a book, he gets excited and talks about their teeth and how they eat meat or leaves.
I definitely think that Guess Who Buddy! was a good book to get him thinking about the scientific aspect of dinosaurs and sparked his curiosity to want to read and learn more about other animals.
Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.

My grandson would love this book.
