If you or someone in your family requires prescription eyeglasses and you’re still triyng to save money by getting them in your brick and mortar eyeglass store, you’re likely wasting a LOT of money.
I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 11 and from 11-16 I went through several pairs of glasses due to immaturity or irresponsibility. I had two pairs (a few years apart from each other) that were eaten (or at least chewed on) by dogs. During these years, my parents were buying my glasses at my eye doctors office and paying anywhere from $120-$300 each for them. When I was 18 and started following blogs, I learned about online eyeglass stores such as Zenni Optical that offer glasses for way way less – in fact, zenni optical has roughly 70 pairs of glasses that cost between 6-7 dollars each (this includes lenses with your prescription!). Talk about affordable prescription eyeglasses! For the last 3 years i’ve been buying my glasses exclusively online and have been thrilled with the quality for the price, because they are just as good as the glasses my parents paid over $300 for.
I haven’t ordered from zenni in particular but they are definitely worth a try in my opinion. One big benefit of zenni optical over other online prescription glasses sellers is that they have a section of child sized glasses, and the places I’ve shopped at before only offer adult size frames. As busy and careless as most children are, it’s a great idea to have a back up pair of glasses incase something happens to their main pair. As a kid, when mine broke I would have to go without until my new ones came in which usually took a couple of weeks. If your child is dependent on their glasses to see the board at school or read, etc it’s best to have a spare so they don’t have to go around unable to see. My favorite child size frames are below. These would be so cute on my super girly sister and retail for under $25. $25 is much better than $300 – with that extra $275 I could spend a day at a water park, buy a cheap tablet computer or, given the current economy just make a car payment.

Plus, at zenni optical it costs just 4.95 extra to have your glasses tinted (you can select which color and how strongly you wanted them tinted) which is great for summer.
