Thanks to Sandbox VR for partnering with me on this post. As always, all opinions are my own.
Have you ever watched a show or played a video game and wished you could actually step inside it? That’s pretty much what you get to do at Sandbox VR! We recently had the chance to try their NEW Deadwood Origins experience, and after having SO much fun with that, we were excited to check out another one of their rooms: Squid Game Virtuals!

What Is Sandbox VR?
If you haven’t heard of Sandbox VR before, let me explain how it works! You can book your experience online and choose the game, location, and time that work best for your group. Sandbox VR has locations around the world, so you can use the location finder on their website to find one near you.
When you arrive, the team gets you outfitted with everything you need, including a haptic suit, trackers on your wrists and ankles, headphones, and a VR headset. They’ll go over the safety guidelines and explain what to expect before sending you into the immersive experience. And when I say immersive, I REALLY mean it! You aren’t just standing around watching a screen. You can move around the room, see your teammates inside the virtual world, and actually feel certain things happening in the game thanks to the haptic technology.

Squid Game Virtuals – Sandbox VR
If you’re familiar with the Netflix series Squid Game, you probably already have an idea of what to expect when it comes to this room; however, it’s far more family friendly than the show! The Sandbox VR version is designed around the games and challenges rather than the intense storyline of the show, so you can play with your kids without worrying about traumatizing them.
Created in partnership with Netflix, Squid Game Virtuals lets you and your group compete in a series of mini-games inspired by the series. You’ll get to experience familiar challenges like Red Light, Green Light as well as other games that put your reflexes, coordination, and ability to follow instructions to the test. I hate to admit it, but my kids beat me at almost everything we played! I fear I’m now becoming my mom, who we always make fun of for being bad at video games – ha!

The virtual environment is what really makes this special. Instead of just seeing the games on a television, you’re transported into the world itself. Some of the mini games had components where you’d grab something from mid-air or where your whole body would drop into the abyss if you failed; it’s CRAZY how realistic it seems. I didn’t know I could get that stomach-dropping feeling outside of a rollercoaster, but Sandbox VR makes it happen!
I also love that the games are competitive without requiring everyone to be an experienced gamer. You don’t need to own a VR headset or know how to operate complicated gaming equipment. The Sandbox VR team gets you set up, and you can focus on having fun…even if your kids and husband are much better than you!

Another feature I love is that Sandbox VR creates a video recap of your experience, so you can relive some of the fun afterward. After our Deadwood Origins adventure, it was hilarious to watch clips of our family reacting to everything happening in the virtual world. It’s such a fun keepsake, especially when you’re making memories with family or friends! The Squid Games video is equally hilarious and embarrassing to watch back.

If you’ve already tried one of the other Sandbox VR experiences, Squid Game Virtuals is a fun option to consider next-I bet it would be great for a kiddo’s birthday party! And if you’re new to Sandbox VR altogether, it’s another way to see just how different full-body virtual reality can be from gaming at home. I can’t wait to try more experiences with my family!
