Time flies when you’re dodging assassins and decoding clever clues— and that means Codenames is turning ten! And to celebrate a full decade of great clues and teamwork, they are relaunching the classic with a shiny new edition. Meet the new Codenames: It’s the game that has redefined party gaming!
Codenames Celebrates 10 Years with All New Editions!
Our first experience playing Codenames was over 5 years ago. We walked into a game night at our local church and they were playing the original version. I was super surprised at how quick it was to get the hang of AND how much fun we had playing! We were immediately sold and left that evening event with a resolution to make sure we would own Codenames within a couple weeks. And we did!
So… What’s New?
This isn’t just a reprint with a sparkly bow. — Instead, it’s a thoughtful refresh based on what players have loved (and sometimes wished for) over the years.
-
All-new art: From the box to the word cards to the secret agents—everything’s been revamped with a cleaner, modern look.
-
Improved packaging: Includes an eco-friendly game insert. The card stand is made of RE-Wood®, a durable recycled material.
-
Smarter word list: Thanks to all the data from Codenames Online, we fine-tuned the word selection for even smoother, more satisfying gameplay.
-
Simplified rulebook: Shorter, clearer, and easier to learn and teach.
If you’re on the hunt for a GREAT party/big group game, LOOK NO FURTHER!
There are so many reasons why we love Code Names. If you’ve never given this game a try, DO IT! Everyone we’ve introduced it to has loved it! Just a few reasons why it’s a great group game are:
- Teamwork: Even if you have someone who claims they ‘aren’t good at games’, Code Names is great because you’re working as a team! Everyone brings a strength to their group!
- Accommodates More People: We oftentimes struggle to find games that can be played by more than 6 people at a time. Code Names can be enjoyed by 8+ people at once! We’ve played with groups of 12 even (with each team having 6 players) and it was still a blast!
- Rounds Can Be Quick: Code Names is a game that can be played in a short amount of time (or play MORE rounds for longer if you’d like). Each round takes approximately 15 minutes.
- Multiple Ages: We especially love how Code Names can accommodate a variety of ages. When we have kids that want to join in, they do! It’s super easy to make them feel included while trying to eliminate your tiles and avoid the assassin!
- It’s Fun: Overall, it’s just a really fun game!
Tell me, which version of Code Names have you tried or do you want to try?

I’m a city girl turned country by my awesome husband and we have three busy boys and two darling daughters. I love spending time with my family, reading Karen Kingsbury novels, and catching up with friends while our kiddos have play dates. I’m blessed beyond measure and can’t wait to see what God has in store.
