Many plastic products have been proven unsafe.  While companies have been removing the BPA, I have been seeing other claims that there are still other unsafe chemicals leaking into our food and beverages from plastics.  While I try to err on the side of caution, I decided to try to switch over as many products as possible to glass and safer alternatives.  However, with our current youngest just a little under two years old, glass cups make me nervous.  He’s broken some of my glasses, jars, and dishes already so I was hesitant to give him a glass cup to drink out of.  That is, until I came across Silikids.

I was sent a few Silikids products to review including their 2-Pack Siliskin 6 Ounce Glasses, 8 Ounce Siliskin Sippy Cup, and the Silimap.  Silikids was founded by a group of moms in 2006 and focuses on products made entirely of silicone and glass.  Safety, practical, functional, and great design is the theme behind the Silikids products.

The 2-pack 6 ounce Silicone Glasses Set has been a huge hit with all four of our kids.  They range in ages 23 months through 9 years and there is always a request for these glasses.  I will definitely have to purchase at least another set or two to keep everyone happy.  While not on purpose, these glasses have been tested for their ability to withstand drops.  Multiple times.  While our normal glass cups have shattered upon impact on our tile floor, the Silikids Silicone glasses have held up perfectly.  They have also frequented the dishwasher daily and come out looking brand new each and every time.  Two very enthusiastic thumbs up on these glasses from everyone in the family.

The Siliskin 8 ounce Sippi Cup has been my go to glass to give our almost 2 year old.  It has been a great way to give our son a glass cup and protect from spills and breakage.  The silicone cover easily stretches over the top of the cup and stays put.  Once the cover is on, the glass is completely encased and protected.  This cup has also been (accidentally) tested for dropping and has stood up perfectly.  While our little guy would prefer the open top Silikids Cups, he spills more often than not so I find myself reaching for this Sippi instead.  Another two thumbs up for great design, performance, and style.

The last product we received is the Silimap.  This is a silicone placement that folds easily (like a map) for travel or storage in a diaper bag.  While we’ve had placemats for the kids before, they would never get used because they weren’t very portable.  While we don’t typically use place mats at home, I really wanted one to have on hand for restaurants.  I am really impressed with how easy this mat folds.  The secret seems to be in the pre-sectioned panels.  I also love the fact that Silikids chose a learning design for their Silimap.  Now we can practice our states with the older kids while we wait for our food.  Another great feature to mention is that the Silimap can be written on by washable markers.  I don’t plan to use this feature but I wanted to note it. Silikids has a home run with their products as the kids and I have also rated the Silimap with 2 more thumbs up.
