It seems like almost all children love the outdoors.  I did daycare for five years and the kids and I would spend the better part of each day outdoors, weather permitting.  Back then, my daycare was located near a paved trail and the troops and I would take walks daily.  While I am now a stay-at-home wife/farmer/homeschooling mom, I still like to be outside as often as possible.  We currently have four kids ranging in ages almost 2 years to 9 years and have another on the way and each of our children love country life.  There are many perks to living out of town but one thing I struggle with is not being able to go for walks with my kids.  I have tried several strollers but none allow me to push easily on gravel.  Fifty feet is a major workout and struggle with a stroller because the wheels don’t push well on gravel.  However, Thule came to my rescue and sent me their Chariot Chinook 2 to review.

The Chule Chariot Chinook 2 is available in Charcoal or Aqua.  I received the Aqua and it’s a gorgeous color.  The entire design of the Chinook 2 is beautiful and thorough.  Features include:

~Front Wheel That Both Pivots & Locks
~One Hand Fold
~Reclining Seats
~Adjustable Suspension
~Infant Car Seat Adapter
~Weather Cover
~Padded Seats
~Adjustable Handlebar
~Window Venting
~Removable Infant Head Supports
~Cargo Storage Bag
~Secure Adjustable 5-Point Harness Buckles For Optimum Safety
~And More

For our first run, we took the Thule Chariot Chinook 2 with us on the Walk For Life that our family participates in each year.  The terrain is easy as it is all sidewalks and tar but it was a great first outing test.  To say that it pushes like a dream is an understatement.  The walk takes about an hour and is about two miles long.  I saw many families struggling with their strollers and getting worn out pushing one child while we were able to breeze on through pushing two with no problems.

But now I needed to put the Chariot Chinook 2 to the test.  While I planned to start jogging this year, now that I’m expecting, we will have to wait till next Summer for that.  However, I have been wanting a way to walk down to the creek with my kids for years.  With the Chariot Chinook 2, I decided to finally try to make that dream a reality.

I buckled our two youngest kids into the Chariot Chinook 2 and we headed out.  The older two alternated walking with me and riding their little 4-wheeler.  The driveway was easy to navigate because the gravel is packed harder than on the road so I was still worried as we continued on.  Once out on the road, though, I couldn’t believe how easy the Chariot Chinook 2 pushed!  There are lots of spots with loose gravel and we were able to sail right through with minimal effort.

The suspension on the Chariot Chinook 2 offered the boys a smooth and comfortable ride.  The buckles kept them safe and sound on the walk and when we stopped by the creek.  The brake on the Chariot Chinook 2 is also very solid and keeps my precious cargo safe.  (I did also make sure that there was a hand holding on to the buggy at all times near the creek .)

Of course, pushing the boys back up the hill did offer a greater workout than our walk down to the creek but, without the Thule Chariot Chinook 2, this walk would have been impossible.

We also have the bike attachment to turn our Chariot Chinook 2 into a Bicycle Trailer but now that the weather here in Minnesota has finally warmed up, my husband is busy in the field discing and planting so we will have to wait for him to try that feature out.

      Hi Nancy,

Hi again! I was just finally checking back to see if you had replied. Thanks for the quick response! We live in the country as well and decided to get this stroller after your review. Helpful to know it handled well on dirt roads. We found a great deal online, can’t wait to get it! Our baby (#6) is due in august, and I am excited to try out the car seat attachment, which will make it into a triple for us! Hoping it’s not too hard to push with all three littles on board, also hoping we will be able to keep up with the three “olders” for nature walks in homeschool, and stay together as a family! Enjoy your newest little one 😉

        Thanks!
