With Summer’s arrival ushers in the season of parks, playgrounds, backyards, and extra fun. With school no longer taking up so many daylight hours each week, this spare time can be used for hands on learning, running, climbing, and more. So before you head to the playground PishPosh Baby has teamed up with RubberMulch.com to bring you the following safety tips.
- Keep Children In Line Of Sight: I find myself striving to do this but it can be hard. Especially when you have an extra child (or five!) to try to watch all at once. While there are times I’d love to sit on the bench and relax, I find myself strolling around the structure to keep a better watch.
- Adequate & Safe Openings In Structures: This is one I’ve never given much thought to till now. Children tend to try sticking their heads where they don’t belong and a safely designed structure will have the right spacing, less than 3 1/2″ or more than 9″, to prevent a child getting stuck or hurt.
- Check Metal Slides: It’s fairly well known that slides tend to get very hot during the peak sunshine hours. It’s always a great idea to do a feel test at arrival to prevent a child getting burned.
- Protect Feet: Sneakers offer all-around protection and are a great choice.
- Adequate Soft Surfaces Under Swings
- Age Appropriate Equipment: Many playgrounds are geared for specific ages. There are some that are great for toddlers and others who offer high climbs, openings, fireman poles, and more that a young child could get hurt on. Scout out the area and find the best playground for your particular needs.
- Soft Play Surface: Playgrounds that include a soft surface offer better protection to cushion any falls.
- Inspect: Scour the playground, sandbox, slides, and other structures for any danger.
- Remove Loose Articles: Necklaces, scarves, strings, and anything that is extra loose can be dangerous if caught on something.
- Sun Protection: Apply sunscreen to everyone before heading out and reapply again during the recommended time frame if still outside.
- Fences: A fenced in playground can help prevent the tragedy of a child running into the line of traffic.
The Valco Baby Universal Stroller Caddy can be a great addition to a day at the park. It’s universal design allows a great fit to almost any stroller. Featuring two large insulated pockets, it’s perfect for packing cold water bottles to stay hydrated when visiting the playground. Also designed with a central mesh pocket perfect for a bottle, small mesh pocket great for keys, as well as a large net back to hold all the necessities. It’s an all-around great product that offers some added organization to any outing.

I’m a city girl turned country by my awesome husband and we have three busy boys and two darling daughters. I love spending time with my family, reading Karen Kingsbury novels, and catching up with friends while our kiddos have play dates. I’m blessed beyond measure and can’t wait to see what God has in store.
