Redragon MPC745 Mini PC — A Compact Powerhouse Enters the Arena
My teen boys love to game but, because they’re young, they’ve started out with mostly hand-me-down equipment. Thanks to birthdays, saving up money, and mom (aka: me); they’ve been able to upgrade some of their equipment already. Today, my younger son is excited to partner with Redragon to help me write this MPC745 Mini PC Review. This mini pc is a compact powerhouse that’s new to the market.
Entering the Market Of PC: Redragon!
Redragon is a brand that I, and many PC enthusiasts, already knew for its keyboards, mice, and RGB gaming gear. The MPC745 marks the company’s first real push into the compact desktop (mini PC) territory. At a $499 price point (don’t forget to use the discount code THRIFTY to save even more!), it promises a blend of performance, expandability, and a small footprint.
MPC745 Mini PC Review- First Impressions
From the specifications, the MPC745 is impressively small: just 130 × 130 × 43 mm. I have a hard time picturing things by numbers alone so we were extremely impressed to see just how little it was in person. Weighing roughly 300 grams, it’s also extremely lightweight. This combinations make it both a space saver as well as easy to travel with. Overall, design feels pragmatic: compact, usable, nothing too over the top, but with some smart choices (and some compromises).
Features At A Glance:
- Fast AMD Ryzen 7 Processor: Powered by AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS, an 8-core/16-thread processor (up to 5.1GHz max boost) built on 4nm Zen4 architecture with integrated NPU for AI acceleration. It handles creative apps, multitasking and 1080P gaming (Radeon 780M graphics) at just 45W TDP.
- Smooth Gaming and Video Performance: Among AMD’s stronger integrated graphics, you’ll be able to play many esports titles and indie/older games at decent settings. Don’t expect triple‑A maxed detail at high framerates.
- 16GB Memory and 1TB Storage Space: This is definitely a solid starting point. The dual 8GB channel configuration supports expandable memory up to 32GB.
- Supports 3 Display Output at Once: The display output is strong for a mini PC. Definitely useful for multitasking setups, streaming, and content creation.
- Connect Up to 3 Monitors in 4K: Supports up to 3 4K/8K resolution displays via USB 4.0 ports (4K@60Hz), HDMI 2.1 (8K@60Hz), and DP 1.4 (4K@120/240Hz).
- Works with WiFi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth: Stay connected through 2.5Gbps Ethernet port, WiFi 6, or Bluetooth 5.2.
- Small, Lightweight, Easy to Carry: Compared to traditional desktops and standard office laptops, the Redragon MPC745 Mini PC delivers 100% superior performance in portability, budget efficiency, and experience – perfect for business mobility while offering next-level gaming during travel.
Set Up:
We initially ran into a few hiccups because our unit didn’t include the latest user manual. However, once we got the updated instructions, setup was quick and easy.
We Love It!
One of the standout features is the USB 4.0 port up front, which allows for connection to eGPU solutions or very fast external NVMe enclosures. This offers an upgrade path: if you find the integrated Radeon 780M limiting down the road, you don’t necessarily need to toss the entire mini PC — you can plug in external graphics hardware (within USB4 / eGPU constraints).
And take note: the integrated graphics are not a gimmick! They are respectable for many casual gaming scenarios, and will likely outpace many older integrated GPU solutions.
Sam’s List Of Pros:
-
Excellent performance per size — 8 core / 16 thread Ryzen 7 in a very small box.
-
Strong connectivity and I/O — USB‑4, multiple USB ports, dual video outputs, 2.5 Gbps LAN, WiFi 6.
-
eGPU path — ability to upgrade graphics externally is a big differentiator.
-
Triple display support — useful for modern productivity setups.
-
Future‑aware specs — DDR5, PCIe 4.0, DDR bandwidth advantages for iGPU usage.
-
Reasonable pricing for what’s being offered.
Sam’s List Of Cons / Risks:
-
Integrated GPU ceiling — for the most demanding gaming / GPU workloads, you’ll need to supplement.
-
Limited distribution & support — early availability is restricted to Redragon’s store in US/Canada, which might complicate returns or warranty.
-
Compact upgrade limitations — internal expandability may be harder or more fragile than standard desktops.
All in all, the Redragon MPC745 Mini PC seems to be a really great option for those in the market for a Mini PC!
