My favorite zippered sweatshirt is from PAKA. I’ve owned it for years, and it has been washed and worn SO MANY TIMES! Yet somehow, it still looks and feels great. There’s barely any wear showing. Which is pretty impressive considering how often I reach for it. So when I had the opportunity to check out the PAKA Women’s Essential V-Neck, of course I said yes!

PAKA Women’s Essential V-Neck Review: Is Alpaca Wool Better Than Merino?
My middle daughter has been in need of some new tees. So I thought this one would be perfect for her. I figured she’d get a nice, versatile shirt and I’d get to see if PAKA’s tees lived up to the quality I’ve experienced with my sweatshirt. Well… now that she has it, I think I’ll be ordering a tee for myself next! She is loving this shirt and I think it looks and feels great.

PAKA Women’s Essential V-Neck
The PAKA Women’s Essential V-Neck may look like a really nice basic tee. But the fabric is what makes it different. Instead of being made entirely from cotton or a synthetic blend, it’s made from 85% organic Pima cotton and 15% Royal Alpaca fiber. PAKA describes the combination as lightweight, breathable, thermoregulating, and adaptable to different climates.
Both my daughter and I immediately thought the fabric felt SO nice. It’s incredibly soft and lightweight. There’s just something about it that feels a little more elevated than your average everyday tee. It’s easy to see why PAKA calls this part of their Essentials Collection. It’s the type of shirt that quickly becomes a wardrobe staple. I also love that it’s made with natural fibers. The Pima cotton is paired with traceable alpaca fiber from Peru. There are no polyester or nylon fibers listed in the material blend.

Fit & Sizing Of The PAKA Women’s Essential V-Neck
I’m normally a size small, so I grabbed the PAKA Women’s Essential V-Neck in an XS for my daughter. And I’m glad I did because it fits her well. PAKA describes this as a regular/classic fit, (rather than an oversized or fitted), tee. I think the fit is really flattering. It has enough shape that it doesn’t look boxy, but it also isn’t skin-tight. The V-neck is another detail I really like. It gives the shirt a little more style than a standard crewneck while still keeping the overall look simple. It’s also available in several colors. I chose Woodrose, which is such a pretty shade, although I believe that particular option is now sold out.
Why Add Alpaca Fiber to a T-Shirt?
The word ‘alpaca’ may bring to mind thick, winter, and warm. BUT, that’s not what this tee is. Only 15% of the fabric is Royal Alpaca fiber, with organic Pima cotton making up the other 85%. The result is a lightweight T-shirt designed for everyday wear rather than a heavy wool shirt. This offers breathability and thermoregulating properties, meaning your shirt can adapt to different climates.

Is Alpaca Wool Better Than Merino Wool?
Personally, I don’t think there’s a simple winner based on this question alone. Because they have different strengths! And, in this case, we’re not talking about a 100% alpaca shirt. The PAKA Essential V-Neck combines a small amount of alpaca fiber with Pima cotton. Both alpaca and merino wool are natural animal fibers commonly used in clothing designed for comfort and temperature regulation. Merino is extremely popular in outdoor and performance apparel, while alpaca is prized for its softness and insulating properties.
For this particular shirt, you get the familiarity and lightweight feel of cotton with some of the benefits that make alpaca such an interesting apparel fiber. It’s soft, lightweight, and comfortable against the skin. Which means it becomes a quick favorite!

Final Thoughts: Is the PAKA Women’s Essential V-Neck Worth It?
Based on my previous experience with PAKA, I came into this with pretty high expectations. My PAKA zippered sweatshirt has been through years of regular wear and washing and still looks fantastic, so I’ve been genuinely impressed with the quality I’ve seen from the brand. The Women’s Essential V-Neck hasn’t disappointed either. My daughter loves the fit, the Woodrose color is beautiful, and the fabric is incredibly soft and lightweight. I also really like that PAKA has taken something as basic as a V-neck tee and made it a little more interesting by combining organic Pima cotton with Royal Alpaca fiber.
So in short, YEP, we think it’s worth it!
